JAVI

A week has passed since our dinner with Nixx's family, but the issue hasn't died down yet. The Figueroas' press release about the issue was pretty brief and concise. They did confirm that it was me who called that time and that I did say those words. However, they did not explain it further. They confirmed that the wedding is off, but did not comment or discuss anything else about it, which left more questions in the public's minds. In the end, the Figueroas asked Nixx's fans and the gossipmongers to kindly respect both our families' decision to keep sensitive things like this private.
Who are we kidding? Of course, people would still talk and dig information, regardless if it's a private matter. That's one of the things I despise about show business. Sure, artists and celebrities chose to be public figures, but that's only to showcase their talents, not their private lives. If the artists and celebrities share with you some things about their personal lives, then be content and grateful for their generosity. How the public becomes entitled to know every single thing about them is plain bullshit. We are all humans, no matter if one is a public figure or a private entity, and we all have the right to keep private things private and public matters public.
"I was gone for two weeks, and you managed to break the Philippine showbiz industry?!" Zeq, my best friend, exclaimed as he laughed about my misfortunes, which my cousin Ranon gladly recounted for him. We are in one of Zeq's family's resorts, taking some time to unwind and escape the unending tsismis for a while. Besides, I'm still on leave from work. Although, I could still see some local people whispering as they looked at me from afar. They probably recognized me.
Ranon laughed with Zeq. Mofos. I rolled my eyes and smirked. "That wasn't even my intention. I only wanted to break up with..." I cocked my head to the side, thinking if I should mention her name. "...her." I decided against it.
Zeq leaned in on the table. We're lounging at the seaside restaurant. "Seriously, though, why did Nixx cheat on you?" He held up his hands. "No offense, but you're more likely to cheat on her," he said and then laughed. I grabbed a handful of fries and threw it at him in annoyance.
"I never cheated on her. I've been good," I said solemnly.
Zeq leaned back on his chair and looked at me seriously. "Maybe she got... bored?"
"I thought about that, too," my cousin sitting beside him commented. "I mean, if you've been good, there's a fat chance that she felt an overbearing peace. That your relationship is too good to be true."
My best friend nodded. "If it isn't that, maybe she simply drifted away. You know, like she developed new interests and you didn't. Like, this isn't what she wants anymore."
My hands clenched into a fist. "How hard is it to just tell me the truth then?"
Ranon sighed. "Didn't she try to explain herself to you? What did she say?"
"Did you even listen to her?" Zeq probed.
I looked away and licked my lower lip. "I didn't hear her out. I couldn't stand to hear her voice. When I hear her, I get flashbacks of the abomination she did," I confessed.
Zeq shifted on his seat. "Would you mind if I talk to her?"
I looked back at him and shrugged. "I don't really care anymore."
When late night fell, we all went out to a beach club a few kilometers away from the resort. Ranon and Zeq were dirty dancing with whores on the dancefloor while I drowned myself in alcohol in our booth. I wasn't really one to dance when intoxicated. I usually just sit and slowly lose my consciousness.
