Betty paced around her room. "What happened to us? I thought she said she loved me, I guess I was wrong." She wiped away a tear and flopped down on her bed. "Ugggh..." she groaned. She looked down at her phone which was lying on the ground. There were 15 unread texts from Veronica. Betty put her head in her hands. "Please stop texting me..." she sniffed. She slowly put her hands down and studied them. The hand she used to punch the locker was bloody and purple, it had swollen so much she could barely tell where her knuckles were. "God." She winced as she gingerly touched her cuts. She picked up her phone and prepared to read her texts.

Veronica: Betty I'm sorry
Veronica: B?
Veronica: Betty please answer
Veronica: Please Betts just let me in
Veronica: I need to talk to you

Betty couldn't read anymore of them, since she had broke down into a sob.
"Why Veronica?"

Betty stared at the ground as she walked to school. She wanted to avoid all eye contact and any comments. As she walked, she felt a tug on her arm. "Betty, hey." Betty's blood ran cold and she turned her head. Veronica was there with a concerned look on her face. "Betty, listen I--" Betty shook off her grip, "No you listen Veronica. I'm never chosen. I wasn't chosen by Archie, my parents never CHOSE to be there for me, and you...." her voice faltered, "You're the worst. You... you played with my emotions and then just... CRUSHED them under your heel. Veronica you said you loved me, then why?" Her nails started to dig into her palms, a nasty habit. "Why would you do this?" Veronica's eyes filled with tears, "I don't know Betty it was the old Veronica that night. I don't deserve you okay?!" Betty looked at the ground, "No. You don't." She walked to school, leaving Veronica crying on the sidewalk.

During class, Betty could feel Veronica's eyes on her. Occasionally Betty would glance back, to be met with a sheepish smile from Veronica. The 4th time this happened, in History class, Betty rolled her eyes. "Mr. Parker can I be excused?" The teacher looked up from his work, "Of course Betty." Betty thanked him and stood up, walking out of the class with a glare at Veronica.

The taste of the cool water refreshed her. The fountain burbled and spurted up sporadically. Betty wiped her mouth and turned to go back to class. "Betty we have to talk like it or not." Veronica crossed her arms. "Oh my gosh Veronica, stop following me." Veronica rolled her eyes, "Betty please." Betty nodded, and they went to a secluded bench in the hall.
