A quick shot of terror went through my body as I looked into the darkness. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I could do this. I stepped forward, closer to the darkness. I could hear footsteps off in the distance. I looked around me, trying to find another way to escape. Anything would be better than the darkness.
There was nowhere else to run to.
One more step forward, and my foot was on the edge. I could do this. I had to do this, before it was too late. My knees shook, and my breath was coming out faster than it was before.
Fear took over me.
I couldn't do it. I just couldn't. I collapsed to the ground just as the footsteps reached me. A quick pull of a trigger from the soldier sent a tranquilizer dart straight into my arm. Purple and black dots began to fill my vision, and my eyes grew heavy. I slowly sank all the way to the ground, and all went black.
