I ran. I ran on adrenaline. I was pretty shaken up as I attempted to puzzle what had just happened. Who was that man or thing? I ran all the way to Amanda's house phone in hand. I threw a few tiny pebbles at her window and she looked out her window.

"Babe" I said "can you please open up the door... hurry".

She quickly walked out of the room so I waited.
There it was again, the sound of someone or that thing, shuffling the gravel with their feet as it walked. I froze in fear as the sound was coming from two houses down from where I stood.  The sound was getting closer until I was able to see him slowly trudging his way towards me and that's when I heard the door open and I dashed inside quickly slamming and locking the door behind me. I told her to lock all the doors and windows from upstairs. She did not have to ask why because she saw it through the window. I locked the windows and I closed all of the curtains. I continued to do so until I was sure that the entire house was safe. I quickly rechecked all the windows and doors and scooped Amanda into my arms and sat on the couch to dial 911.
The thing began to bang on the front door causing Amanda to jump in my arms. The door that was on our right and Amanda griped my arm as if she were holding onto like her life. We began to head upstairs and we heard the banging on the door began to get louder and caused Amanda to yelp and cling onto me tighter and it made me jump. I held Amanda closer to me.
There was a loud crash as splinters flew all over the living room. Amanda and I ran up the remaining few steps and hid in her room. The thing was shuffling around near the staircase until we heard it slowly begin to clamber up the steps. Amanda locked both of us into her room. It was climbing the stairs with each step getting closer. We both pushed her desk in front of the door in order to prevent it from busting through if it broke the lock. He was on our floor now. I noticed that it was quiet and Amanda quickly noticed as well as she whimpered in fear into my chest and that's when I heard heavy breathing coming from the other side of the door.

The sound of Amanda's shaky voice brought some of my attention to her while I was trying to keep eye on the door. "Nathan, I'm really scared".

We both sat on her bed. And I held her close.
The thing began to scratch at the door as if it were trying to find a way to get in until it began to bang of the door. That is when I pulled Amanda with my to her bathroom and locked the door behind me as she climbed into the tub and began to sob.
