Chapter 15. The Invitation

"Hazel, I have a job for you," Michael said as he entered Hazel's cubicle, her scent immediately engulfing him as he took a deep breath, savoring it.

"Yes?" Hazel asked as she turned her office chair around to face him. Her heart jumped in excitement while her brain wished it could just roll its eyes over whether he had come again to ask for another coffee.

"Well he could've just asked for coffee through the intercom," Her heart tried to reason out.

"In the amount of time we have been working here, it is impossible to predict the unpredictable." Her brain scoffed as it referred to Michael as the "unpredictable."

Two months have passed since Hazel had been working for Michael but still her heart seemed like it would leap out of its chest everytime she saw him.

Michael walked over to Hazel's desk and loomed over it while Hazel was trying her best not to fidget with nervousness. At the beginning of this job she told herself that her nervousness would soon fade away with time but now it seemed reasonable that it was just the mate's bond which made her feel six feet in the air.

"Read this," Michael said as he handed her an envelope, his fingers slightly brushing with Hazel's soft ones making sparks shoot up her arm.

Michael looked at her as she opened the fold of the red colored envelope, her eyes gazing at it with curiosity and confusion while her fingers worked their way to the note inside. Michael's wolf immediately flooded his brain with pictures of her working her fingers on "something else" and he tried his best to stop himself from getting a boner.

Join us on Saturday as we celebrate yet another year of the successes of "Shining Stars" which has aided many young boys and girls in getting free education for the past 27 years.

Hazel's eyes raked over the words printed on the note in beautiful writing. She knew how the organization, Shining Stars had helped so many children and she was proud to be a part of something so impactful.

"Five years ago, we donated fifty million dollars to the organization and they always invite every one of us in their celebrations and events," Michael explained as Hazel's jaw dropped to the ground.

"That's more than how much I'll ever earn," Hazel whispered to herself.

Hazel was about to return the envelope but Michael gently pushed her hand towards her, "It's yours, Hazel."

"Oh," was Hazel's reply as a blush crept up to her cheeks.

"Thank you then," Hazel said as she nodded at him, a sign that she was merely dismissing him off.

"Hazel?" Michael called out as he folded his fingers behind his back trying to hide his nervousness.

"Hmm?"

"How do I say it to her?"

"Just say it! It's not like you're asking to take her to the altar or something!"

"I wish I could."

"Wait, what the fuck? Did you just say that you want to marry her?"

"What is happening to me?!"

"Focus, Michael!"

Michael had an internal battle with himself and Hazel looked at him with confusion and innocence as she figured that something was up.

"I need a date," Michael said quickly.

"A date?" Hazel's eyebrows rose in confusion.

"A date," He nodded.

"You want me to find someone for you?" Hazel suggested.

Fucking shit! I want you!

"No."

"Then?" Hazel asked.

"I want you to be my date."

Hazel wanted to gasp out loud. Her lips twisted into a confused frown as her brain registered the words he had said.

"Why don't you just take one of the women you've been out with before?" Hazel asked, partially slapping herself for the suggestion.

"Why should I?" Michael asked. He wanted to tell her that they did not mean anything to him and were just his "sex buddies" but that would be highly unprofessional and very....disturbing.

"Well, you have past connections with them. I sometimes wonder how you're single too," She mumbled the last part to herself.

"Why would I not be single?" Michael asked, an amused smirk on his lips.

"You were not supposed to hear that," Hazel gasped.

"But I did so answer me." He said using his commanding voice leaving no space for any type of argument.

Because I'm hot?

Because I'm sexy?

Because I'm oh-so- beautiful?

Michael really thought that she would say something like that but her reply was, "Because you have money."

Oh.

Michael's features immediately changed. The smirk was gone and replaced with a thin straight line. His jaw was set hard again and he gritted his teeth.

"You're going to be my date for the evening. No ifs and no buts. If you back out, you will be fired," He said and stormed out of the room, closing the door behind him with a bang.

"Why did you say that, you dumb fuckhead?" Hazel's wolf immediately started scolding her.

"I couldn't just say that he's a perfect God's creation now could I?" She retorted back.

"Well, you could've said something better than that. Did you not see how angry he was? Great, now he'll think that he's worth only gold diggers, thanks to you." She scoffed. Hazel pushed her at the back of her head and put her head in her hands. She was happy yet angry at being his date. I mean, what about her own plans? Even though she did not have any, he should've asked her about her plans for the evening.

Ugh! He's such an arrogant and hot headed jerk!

And fire me?! Why does he need to fire me, for the Moon Goddess's sake!

But he is your mate and you wouldn't do anything to hurt him, right?

A loud groan left Hazel's mouth.

I hate you mate's bond!
