Chapter 24. "Your carriage awaits"

Oops... Hazel thought. Wrong choice of words.

She could see the double meaning behind his words and it was obvious that he wasn't implying anything that was related to office work.

Unless you count naked and bent on the office sofa HA! Hazel's subconscious mocked.

She had been discharged from the hospital after patiently listening to the doctor tell her all about her medications and what she can do, what she can't do. The doctor was still surprised over why and how her foot had healed so quickly but she changed the subject, trying not to make things awkward.

As she walked down, she noticed all the girls ogle at Michael, her mate. They weren't even glancing at him, they were downright staring at him like he were a fine piece of meat ready to be devoured. Hazel's wolf growled at the thought and she felt satisfaction when she dreamed of ripping all these horny ladies' throats apart.

You're horny for him, too.

True. But he's my mate.

However, Michael didn't spare even one glance at the women and Hazel smirked.

He's mine, bitches.

She went down to meet her nurse and bid her goodbye. Also, she wanted to pay all the bills but when she looked at her bill, it was paid.

"Excuse me ma'am, who paid all my expenses?" She asked.

"Oh, they were paid by that handsome young fella there," Her fifty year old nurse pointed at Michael who was waiting for her at the car in front of the hospital.

"He did?" She asked to which her nurse nodded enthusiastically.

"He would come here everyday. Mostly, he'd just stay here, beside your bed and would whisper sweet things to you. I caught him crying once," She said, dreamy eyed. Hazel chuckled. Obviously, the nurse was lying, right?

"Well, that's good to know. Thank you ma'am. Goodbye." She said.

"Goodbye, dear. Oh, and trust me, he's a keeper," The nurse called behind her and giggled.

The nurse was lying, she told herself.

Then why did it seem like she wasn't?

***********
They walked to the garage and Hazel gasped. Seeing all the cars made her head ache and her breaths come out short. She was having flashbacks of the accident that had happened. Her ears were ringing and she let out a small whimper before covering her ears with her hands and clutched them tightly.

"Hazel?" Michael asked, coming near her with a concerned look on his face.

She couldn't answer him. She wanted to but no words came from her mouth. She could hear the sounds glass shattering and her screams when the car was thrown.

"Hazel, breathe!" Michael said, putting his hands on her shoulder. She then realized that she had held her breath.

He hugged her close to her body. The contact made her come back into reality. She breathed again, taking deep gasps and then sobbed, clutching his shirt tightly. She sobbed in his chest.

"I can't-t...I can't g-go back in t-there," She said in between her sobs.

"Okay baby...shhhh... it's fine. We won't go back in the car," Michael consoled her. He gently ran his fingers through her hair and kissed her forehead.

"I'll carry you to my home, yeah?" He said. Hazel didn't want to go to his house but she didn't want to travel in the car either so she nodded.

He pulled his coat from his shoulders and gave it to her.

"Your carriage awaits, ma'am." Michael said, bowing a little. Hazel giggled, despite her tears and curtsied. Then, Michael swooped her up in his arms bridal style and motioned for her to put the coat on her to cover herself from the hungry paparazzi.

She inhaled his scent making her and her wolf relax. She felt him walk and looked up from the coat to see his jawline and his face which was held up in a confident manner. She wanted to touch it but it was so sharp it could draw blood from her fingers. She saw his Adam's apple bob up and down and nearly drooled at the sight of her sexy mate.

"You're staring, sweetheart." Michael said, peeking at her and chuckled. She blushed crimson red.

"Thank you for doing this. I didn't want to be a burden on you," She said lightly. He tensed and his jaw clenched. From the same coat hole, he glared at her.

"Listen, sweetheart. You will never be a burden on me, got it? Your problems are my problems, your happiness is my happiness."

Hazel could feel the butterflies swarming in her stomach at his words. No one has ever been so loving with her.

You've never even had a romantic history before, her subconscious chuckled.

True, she thought, but she liked this.

She didn't know what was awaiting her at his house. She should be surprised, but she wasn't. She knew that she trusted him with everything in her. And she knew that he would never want to hurt her.

"So, I can't thank you for paying my hospital bills either?" Hazel asked, feiging innocence.

Michael grumbled under his breath, "Who told you about that?"

"The receptionist," She shrugged.

"Dammit! I strictly prohibited them to not tell you about it. I'll have to fire her."

Hazel gasped and lightly hit his chest, "You will not!"

"Watch me, baby girl."

Hazel wanted to moan at how he said baby girl but decided that it wasn't the right time.

"No you won't and if you fire her, I'll resign too."

Michael's jaw ticked. "You do not mean that," He growled.

"Cross my heart, hope to die." Hazel answered.

Michael growled but gave in making Hazel smirk.

The time passed by again with none of them saying anything. Michael was the one to break the silence.

"So.... what's your favorite color?" He asked nervously making Hazel burst out laughing.
