Chapter 3
"I'm sorry, your majesty it sounded like you just said marriage," I said.
It had been exactly five minutes since my father had told me that I was going to marry Francis and I was already freaking out a little. I had no idea what to do about this but whatever I was going to do, I had to try and find a way out of this. I wasn't ready for marriage any time soon and I couldn't believe that I was nearly engaged.
"No you heard me right Elizabeth. I thought this would make you happy," King Henry said.
"But isn't it a little early?" I questioned.
"Your sister is engaged to King Phillip II of Spain, all that's left to do is announce it," he answered.
"Mary is engaged?, when did this happen?" I questioned.
"Early this morning, she is currently getting ready to board for Spain later this evening," King Henry explained.
I stood there trying to process everything as best as I could before King Henry said...
"Now, shall we continue the arrangements for your marriage?" King Henry asked Francis.
"As long as Elizabeth agrees with the marriage than we can continue the arrangements," Francis said.
"Elizabeth?" King Henry asked.
"Shall I do this properly?" Francis asked.
I watched as Francis got down on one knee before saying...
"Princess Elizabeth I of England, will you marry me, Francis the Dauphin of France, letting our two countries to unite and for some day our children to rule France and England, standing strong together?" Francis proposed to me.
"I will," I accepted.
"May I now raise a glass to the engaged couple," my father said, holding a glass in the air.
We all took a glass of wine and celebrated our engagement.
"Okay and now let's sort through these arrangements for your marriage. Elizabeth, you may now be excused," King Henry said.
"Yes your majesty," I said, walking out the room with Lady Lola by my side.
I kept on walking for a while until I heard Lady Lola began calling me...
"Elizabeth! Elizabeth please stop!" Lady Lola called.
"You heard King Henry, I've got a lot to do for my wedding," I said.
"Can you just stop for a moment?" Lola asked me.
I stopped and turned to her for a moment and she said...
"Do you even want to get married to Francis?" she asked me.
"Shall we talk for a moment in private?" I wondered, walking towards the garden that I was with Ezra last night.
We walked until around the garden, looking at all the flowers, until I said...
"It's not like I don't want to get married to Francis, it's just, I don't think I'm ready to get married," I said.
"Well, why not?" Lola asked.
"I don't know, I just want to have my freedom for a little bit longer. I want to find someone that I believe I can marry and love and who get's me. I want someone who I believe can help me rule and change things for the better," I explained.
"I understand," she said.
"You do?" I asked.
"Of course and some day I believe you'll find exactly that, but for now you must get ready for this wedding," Lady Lola said.
All of a sudden, Ezra came from the castle and began to walk towards us...
"Begging your pardon princess and Lady Lola but Princess Mary has requested to speak with you," Ezra said.
"Thank you Ezra," I thanked Ezra.
I then looked at Lady Lola and said...
"Now, I'll see you later at the royal gathering for Mary and King Phillip's engagement," I said to Lady Lola.
"Yes princess," Lady Lola said walking away and into the other part of the castle.
"Shall we?" I asked Ezra.
"Yes princess," Ezra said, walking with me and into the castle.
As we continued walking into the castle, we walked past several paintings and beautiful things. I loved everything about the castle, especially the inside of it as there was all sorts of beautiful things. I then turned to Ezra as I walking and said...
"You know, you don't have to call me princess, just call me Elizabeth," I said.
"Sorry princess, I mean Elizabeth," Ezra said.
"So how has your morning been?" I asked.
"Same old, same old, nothing new to talk about," Ezra said.
"Oh come on, there has got to be something new," I said.
"Today, I changed your bedroom sheets and have be sorting out your chambers," Ezra said.
"Well that sounds too boring to bare, let's do something fun," I said.
"But Elizabeth, what about Mary?" he asked.
"Let's see," I said, looking around for a moment.
I then caught eye of a house servant and said...
"Excuse me, can you do me a favour?" I asked a servant.
"Yes princess," the servant said.
"Can you tell Princess Mary that I shall be a bit late for the meeting and that I shall talk with her later?" I asked.
"Yes your majesty," she said, walking off and down the corridor.
I then turned to Ezra and said...
"Now, let's have a little fun," I said.
"What did you have in mind?" Ezra asked.
"How about a ride?" I wondered.
"Sounds great," he said.
We then walked down the corridor and towards the stables outside of the castle. I couldn't wait till we had a ride as it had been so long since I was able to ride free and alone. I couldn't wait to have some fun, free and alone with Ezra...
