Chapter 1

Selena’s POV

“Right now, he’s probably slow dancing with a bleached blond tramp and she’s probably getting frisky. Right now, he’s probably buying her some fruity little-”

“Let’s get lost tonight. You could be my black Kate moss tonight. Play secretary, I’m the-”

“JUSTIN!” I screamed at him

“What?!” he said, pulling off his headphones.

“I was listening to Carrie Underwood’s new song, but you were singing that Kanye West song so loud that I could barely hear it through my headphones!”

“So I like singing, sue me!” he said while shrugging his shoulders, “plus, you were singing that song pretty loud too. Who do you think you are, Faith Hill?”

“Shut up, Mr. Wanna Be Usher!”

We began laughing so hard and playfully nudging each other. It was a hot summer day and we were walking towards the park. We immediately ran towards the basketball courts. I took out my portable ipod speakers and set it up then we began playing.

Hey There Delilah by Plain White Tee’s began playing loudly through the speakers. Justin and I have this game that whoever is on offense has to sing along to whichever song is playing.

Justin was running across the court, dribbling “hey there Delilah, what’s it like in New York City, I’m a thousand- HEY!” He yelled that last part when I stole the ball from him so fast he almost didn’t notice.

Oh, its what you do to me,” I began singing it loudly to rub it in his face that I was a girl and I was going to whoop his ass in basketball!

We played like that for hours until it started getting dark and we decided it was best to go home.

“So… call it a tie?” Justin asked.

“HA! You wish! I beat you so bad you were about to cry like a lit-” I was cut off by a middle aged man approaching Justin and I.

“Hey, that was an interesting game you guys were playing,” the man said. He appeared to be in his mid 20’s. I backed up and let Justin stand in front of me. Even thought I was pretty tough and brave for my age, I knew I was pretty much defenseless against this guy. Growing up in a small town, we don’t usually encounter many strangers.

Justin took the lead, “thanks man,” he grabbed my hand and we began walking, “but we gotta go home. Nice talking to ya.”

The man quickly caught up with our step, “look, you guys are being defensive. I get it. I was your age once. But I noticed you guys had pretty good voices.

“thank you,” I said, “we love to sing!”

As soon as this man began complimenting my singing, I stopped and was all ears. Justin kept nudging my arms and then whispered in my ear, “Sel, we don’t know this guy. Lets go home!”

“Justin, be nice. He has ears! And he is being very nice to us, why are on the edge?” I said this loud enough for the man to hear and Justin’s cheeks turned red with embarrassment.

“Look, I get it,” he said, turning his direction towards me, “your boyfriend-”

“BOYFRIEND?” I practically spat in his face.

“no, no, he is not my boyfriend.” I said, clearing it up.

“yah,” justin said while resting his elbow on my shoulder, “we are just best friend!”
