Darkness, it gets the best of us,
Even though we try to resist.
Curiosity lures us into the shadows,
It will always insist.
We don't know any better,
So we go ahead and try it.
But soon after we explore the dark,
We only find a world of shit.
At first the darkness reveals
All manner of riches and pleasures.
They bring you in with their sweet words,
Their true intentions behind their whispers.
Then the curtain is lifted,
And you see the world in the light.
There is nothing but a barren wasteland,
And what you find fills you with fright.
It reeks of death and decay,
The ground is scattered with bones.
There are people there, it's true,
But they all lie beneath tombstones.
You try to run away from the horrors
That never seem to disappear,
But they always catch up to you
And fill your mind with fear.
They say to you with coaxing words,
"Come with us, let's have some fun!
You'll never have to be sad again!"
And they drag you away from the sun.
Try as you might, you cannot escape.
You cannot escape your doomed existence
With all the pleasures in the world.
Oh, it is so futile, resistance.
No one hears your cries for help,
Nor your screams of panic and distress.
Unless you find your inner strength,
You will be forever trapped in darkness.
