Matty & Bat Yam
By A.I. Reiss
The events that occurred while Matty, or as after one interview he chose to be called, Matt or Mathew (the interviewer, was trying to be one of those playful, fun-loving, everybody loves a cheerleader, with part seductress cum femme fatale type, and because she was trying so hard to be all of those, she was failing miserably, and came of like a schoolgirl with a fan girl crush, and her nervousness showed) when she asked at some point if he had a girlfriend, and how old he was, because well... he looked so young, and... (she paused, obviously trying to say something, without saying it) he asked her to take a breath, and said that he preferred Mathew or even Matt, only family called him Matty (he was always at a loss when it came to how people, especially woman saw him, he understood about chemistry, that it had to do with hormones, but thought that like pheromones, it was something a person gave off, and he was unaware of both his sex-appeal or the automatic charisma/chemistry he had. He was like the ugly duckling who had no idea that he was a handsome swan; cameras and people facing him were as caught in his natural charm as ships in a whirlpool.)
One person told him about it and then said, "You're so sweetly innocent, you haven't a clue, that your a little like that mermaid that tried to get you." Matty just shrugged and replied:
"I have no idea what people see, I am just me, and maybe I am innocent, but not so innocent that I don't understand what you're saying, I am not doing anything it was the way my father was, and its how he built me, no one can help how they were made."
"Well," said the person who had made Matty aware of his natural charm, "if you want them to take you seriously when you talk to the press, just remember what you did on that first interview, you know the one..." he remembered the blond who had reminded him of the mermaid, before she had changed her image to resemble his mom, he had told her not to call him Matty but Mathew or Matt. He replied:
"Yea got it Matt or Mathew, thanks, I'll remember it for next time."
And he had in every interview he'd done after that one, which weren't that many. Now Matty was far away under the sea, and yet the grand debate about him, and other "new developments" still wagged on.
While courts in the US were debating if, "Manufactured People" constituted as human, and who had rights, (clones and their would be offspring, where one example often used in these debates, as was Matty and children who might be born with patented genetic markers or strings as some called them) were they like everyone else under the law? (the debate was who actually owns them or do they own themselves, and do they have any rights, if ones DNA is copyrighted or patented, to what they may create?) There where those who said, that since the DNA was patented and ccopyrighted, then anything such a being came up with, wether it was: music, art, scientific discovery, or even children, would not be theirs, but would be owned by those who created them...people argued it was going to be another form of human/ humanoid slavery, and they brought up the musician "Blind Tom" as an example. People wondered (and not for the first time), was this just the beginning of a new form of slavery, by weak minded, weak of body people. TV programs suddenly reran certain series, that raised such question, but had been dropped in the past for not doing well enough in the ratings, still others made or added to shows already in their last season (or about to be cancelled) an additional few episodes or seasons.
In schools (especially law schools) this was a hot button subject, debated and questioned, but that is the grand country of the USA.
Far across the sea in Europe, this debate was no longer being debated. Laws had been made in some countries (particularly those, still members of the EU) that gave Manufactured people rights, people around the world, heard from children and young adults, who had been created via IVF, and the newer process that (mentioned by Matty, that he technically could do physiologically) unlike those, who had been the first to be conceived in labs, via the research done into SXO17, they were often called in the early days G17's, or "Gemo" babies.
