Weeks had passed since Brad's condition had worsened, and although it had not worsened, it hadn't improved. That was a heartbreaking fact. He wasn't getting better. Would he ever get better?
I asked myself that question every day as I sat by his side, watching his chest struggle as he attempted to breath.
I so desperately wanted him to wake up, to hold me tight and say everything would be ok. I needed him to do that for me. But hope was slipping away from me, second by second.

Each day, at exactly one in the afternoon I turned up, greeted the nurses and sat by Bradley's side for approximately an hour. Before kissing him goodbye and returning back to my Mum's house, and preparing the children's dinner.
The children were desperately missing their Dad, Ellie wanted his bedtime stories, Thomas wanted him to play football with him, and poor baby Jo didn't even know who he was.
The children being so unsure about the situation with their Dad, but wanting him home so much, broke my heart the most.
They were innocent in all of this.
They deserved none of this.
Yet they had to suffer it all.

"Ellie, listen to me" I sighed, as I tucked her into bed "You can't come with me to see your dad, you're too young"
"But I'm five now" she whinged, slapping a pout on her face, her eyes glossing over. I shook my head, sitting down next to her "But that's not old enough, and it wouldn't be fair if you got to see Daddy and Thomas didn't "
"Then we can sneak Thomas in"
"No we can't Ellie,  I promise you will get to see him soon, once he's not so poorly" I ran my fingers through her hair, my thumb stroking her forehead. She gave me a glare and rolled over, facing the wall. "I love you baby girl", but I was greeted with silence. As my heart crumbled slightly, I pecked a kiss on her cheek, and crept out the room, closing the door behind me.

I continued to creep down the corridor and into my bedroom, stumbling onto my bed, and cocooning myself in a blanket.
Slowly the fire had pushed everyone away from me that mattered, Bradley, and now my own children.
How was any of this fair? How did we deserve any of this?
But most importantly why did my children have to suffer because of Daisy.  I knew she started that fire. But she was still being catered for hand and foot by her mum. Who believed she was the worst done by in all of this.
How could someone so evil get away with this?

My fears for our future swirled around and around in my head all night. Preventing me from getting any substantial sleep. But that was no different from any other night.
