After midnight, I wobbly made my way to the kitchen. Shelby and Red were there.
"Is there a shower in here or something?" I asked, coming in.
"Ross!" Shelby cried.
She ran to hug me, then saw that I was splattered with brains and blood.
"Max and Jess-?" Red asked.
"Dead." I said, a little hoarsely, remembering the horrible sound of skull cracking.
"Oh... it's just us left." Red said.
"Yeah, and as for a shower, I hid in a bathroom with one, but I don't know if it'll work." Shelby said.
"If the bathrooms work, showers should too." Red said.
"Alright, I'll check it out." Ross said.
I walked up, and took a cold shower. After that, I tried washing the blood off my shirt. I left it to dry, and walked towards the library. I felt really self-conscious about walking around without a shirt on, but it was an almost abandoned mansion with only three living people and a psycho ghost girl in it. I walked in to the library, and I was in there for a good five hours, reading. Trying to find anything about exorcism. I heard Red and Shelby come in after the sixth hour. I assumed it was them because Cassie didn't make any noise when she entered or exited a room.
"Hey, we have some food if your hungry." Shelby said, "and we brought your shirt down. Figured you might want it."
"Thanks guys." I said, taking the apple and a sandwich from Red, and my shirt from Shelby.
I nibbled on the food, my stomach still tender from the three stooges gone wrong scene with Max and Jess.
"What are you looking at anyway?" Red asked.
"I was trying to find something on exorcism." I said, "maybe if we can exorcise Cassie, we can get out of here."
"Well, we have a while to figure it out." Red said.
So that's pretty much what we did for the rest of the time. Then, about nine hours before the final game began, I found something in a book I found flat on the ground near a creaky old bookshelf I thought was going to fall on me.
"A ghost can be exorcised if you recite an incantation in the area where they died." I read aloud to Shelby and Red.
"That's great! Except we don't know where she died." Red said.
"Yeah, I know." I said.
I felt really sleepy, and I laid my head down on the library table.
"I'm gonna take a nap before...." I started, before drifting off to sleep.
I woke up in the attic, and I saw Cassie, covered in blood, staring out the attic window. This must be after she killed her family. I guessed. Cassie raised the meat cleaver, and I didn't have time to look away before she cut across her own neck. Her convulsing body fell to the floor, crimson staining the dark boards of the attic floor.
I snapped awake. There was thirty minutes until the final game. I smiled. I knew where to perform the ritual.
-----------------------------------
"The attic" I said to Red and Shelby, "That's where she died."
"That's great!" Shelby cried.
"So we just go to the attic and read some words and we can leave?" Red asked.
"Yeah, I guess." I replied.
"We're about to teleport, so try to make it to the attic." Shelby said.
"Right." I replied.
I ripped the incantation from the book and put it in my pocket. That's when I blinked, and was in a different area. I had been teleported. The Game had begun.
I walked as fast as I could towards where I hoped the attic was. I had been walking for several hours, totally lost. I had only focused on the hiding spots on the map, and the general areas around them. And I was running out of time. I heard a scream as I passed the library. It sounded like Red. I started to run. I ran up several flights of stairs, and pulled down the ladder. As the ladder reached the floor, Shelby's mangled scream sounded nearby. I rushed up the steps, and stepped into the attic. The dolls were there, now with a Uni doll, which had a purpled neck, and Max and Jess dolls, which were missing parts of their heads. Red and Shelby didn't have dolls yet. I pulled out the crumpled incantation, took a deep breath, and started to read. For Red, Shelby, and everyone else who died in this house.
"Jaakuna rei...." I started, when I felt a white hot pain erupt in my side, and move almost to my spine. Cassie had stabbed me in the side, and dragged the knife to my back. I collapsed, bleeding out.
"Huehuehue~" Cassie giggled, "I alway save you guys for last...."
"Us guys?" I gasped, the pain almost too much to bear. I was surprised I hadn't passed out yet.
"Yeah! I'm gonna show one person from every group my past. Those little visions you've been getting. How else would I get you guys to willing be in one place!" Cassie said, "Hide N Seek is about strategy too! That's why I gave you guys false hope, to make the game even better!"
"False...*Gak*....Hope?" I asked, coughing blood.
"That map with all the 'secret' hiding places? I put that there." Cassie replied.
No... I thought.
"I hope you had fun Mister Ross!" Cassie said sweetly, before leaving me to bleed out.
I heard the ladder close, I heard the door shut, and I knew I wasn't going to make it. I was bleeding too badly. I covered the wound with my hand, and it came back covered in blood, like I was wearing a shiny red glove. I got an Idea. I looked at the wall, crawling, towards it, then I wrote two words on the walls. A message for anyone, anyone, who would be able to help us. Bury us. Then I died.
