Chapter 10
"Hey (y/n), I think It would be a good idea to eat before you go to our last test, so we're going to drop by the castle and pick up some food before we leave," Hanji informed me. I nodded.
A little while later, we were at the castle, and were going to get food from Jean and be off.
"Hanji, can Jean come with us to the last test?" I asked. Hanji thought for a second and said "It wouldn't hurt the test I don't suppose... Alright. But you have to ride on his horse if he is coming." I smiled and hopped off. We went inside and asked Jean for food. He gave us some and we sat down to talk.
"Jean, you are going to take (y/n) to our next test, if that's ok," Hanji explained. "Well, lemme word that differently... You don't have a choice." Jean nodded. We ate our soup in silence through dinner because of the awkward tension.
"Okay, time to go!" Hanji yelled as she jumped from her seat. I gave Jean a small smile to reassure him that everything was going to be fine. The part I was worried about, though, is that I had no idea if everything was going to be fine or not. We boarded our horses and Hanji lead the way to our unknown destination.
The ride there was short. Once we got there, I felt Jean tence up. I saw anger in his eyes but then his face relaxed. He looked like he realized something. I looked where he was looking. I saw a girl surrounded in a similar substance to what the wall was. I walked up to her and felt the substance. It felt the same as the wall. A squishy, gummy feel.
"Take her out of the crystal." Hanji ordered. I was a bit scared. This substance was difficult to get my hand through.
"It reminds me of the same substance of the wall." I stated. "In fact, it is the same substance as the wall. It feels like a giant fruit snack."
"What the hell is a fruit snack?" Jean asked. "Gummy things that taste like fruit," I said, still looking at the crystal. Hanji was taking notes. I reached my hand in the crystal. It was difficult to get through. I took my arm out when it was mid-forearm deep. I was panting.
"Ugh! You were doing so well!" Hanji complained. "It's harder than it looks!" I yelled back at her. "Keep trying until you get her out!" Hanji ordered once again. I nodded and stuck my hand back in. I pushed through the best I could. It was like the energy was being sucked out of me the further I went. I stopped for another break. I looked back at Hanji, who looked like she was trying very hard to hide her anger. A wave of nausea washed over me and my legs decided not to work. Jean sensed this and rushed to catch me. I felt terrible. I had gotten to almost my shoulder before I gave out. There was a mold of my arm in the crystal behind us.
"Okay. Fine. We'll come back tomorrow. Sorry for being so harsh." Hanji said, giving up. Jean carried me on his back the way to the horse. He put me on the horse first, then got on himself. We started to leave when a huge bolt of lightning came out of the sky. The sky was completely clear, so it couldn't have came from the clouds, but then where did it come from?
"It's a titan!" Jean yelled. Then I remembered that when Eren transformed there was a bolt of lightning that came from the sky also. It was a titan shifter. And I could find out who.
