My eyes opened a slit, and the light came streaming in. It felt so endearing and powerful, it brought me a new force. It was filled with strength, and I felt the sense of new life. My eyes were open, but I was not used to keeping my eyes open for long. I closed my eyes, and instead listen to the overwhelming voices around me. I let my ears drown in the sounds, while keeping my eyes shut.

"What a beautiful baby boy," a gentle, yet, authoritative voice complemented. Her voice was filled with happiness. Even though my eyes were closed, I could tell she was smiling.

I made a decision.

For as long as I live, I would want that voice in my life. "He shall grow up big and strong. Unlike his father, he will be kind, and won't abuse his power."

Although I was just born, I knew that I would try to do exactly that. I would make her proud. I feel myself get tired, and I relax my body. I let the dark carry me away. However, before I am totally pulled under, I hear the last thing the lady said.

"Your name shall be Prince Isanic, a name of power," she said kindly. "Goodnight little one."

I am now five years old.

Right now I'm playing Hide and Seek with my maid, Ashley, and her daughter, Michelle, in the castle court yard. Michelle is exactly two months younger than me. I've been told my birthday is October 12, and hers is December 12. We've been friends for as long as I remember, and she is definitely my best friend. Ashley is my mother, Queen Scarleta's personal maid.

The lush green grass of the field gleamed bright green in the sunlight. There were bushes of flowers in circles in the middle of the big courtyard. Gray stone pathways led through the grass, and toward the center where stood a white arch entrance in the middle of the courtyard. Trees for the perimeter of the land, with regular bushes around them.

I hid under a dark green bush, staying still so I'm not heard. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Michelle hiding behind a tree. Through the branches and leaves of the bush, I see Ashley. She is standing under the white entrance. Her hands cover her eyes, and she is counting in her sweet voice.

"-seven! Eight! Nine! Ten!" She calls out. Her hands come off her face and she looks around. "Ready or not! Here I come!"

Michelle turns her head around from the oak tree and looks at me. She smiles at me and I smile back. Her straight dirty blonde hair practically glows in the sunlight, even though the shade is blocking most of the sun.

There is a slight breeze, and little wisps of her hair was flying. It still seems to be perfect to me. My dark brown hair is just boring to me, even though everybody thinks it's adorably cute.

Her eyes are a sky blue, that always seem to hold happiness, and light me up when I'm sad. Right now she's smiling widely, and I can only smile back. Her hands are placed on the tree, and her feet are balancing on the tree's roots. I turn my head away, with a large smile in my face, and look at Ashley.

She has the same eyes and hair as Michelle, probably because they're mother-daughter. She's currently at the other side of the large plot of land, with her backside toward me. Her long light blue dress is blowing around her ankles, a thin brown belt was wrapped around her waist.

Ashley still hasn't found us, but she's heading our way. While she walks this direction, Ralph, a servant of my parent, comes out from the castle. He's in a black-and-white suit, with his mouth in a straight line. Michelle and I don't like him. He's very strict and mean. Anti-fun.

He walks on the stone walkways, not getting his black shoes anywhere near the grass. He doesn't want to get even a speck of dust on his shiny black shoes, I think.

His face is in a serious expression as always.........

He reaches Ashley and says something to her. They both are looking at each other, and not paying attention to us.

I look at Michelle and she smiles evilly. She quietly breaks off a small branch and it makes a small snap. I look at the two adults, they haven't noticed. She slips it to me, and I grab it. I silently toss the branch to the path, and look back at Ashley and Ralph.

They have just finished talking, and Ralph is beginning to walk away........

As he comes down the path, I look at Michelle. She has an evil glint in her eye, and I love it. I turn back to the scene in front of me. Ralph has his head up, with perfect posture, therefore not looking down. He took is next step, and tripped over the stick. He fell down onto the grass, getting his clothes stained and dirty.

A large smile spread across my face, and erupted into a small chuckle. I hear laughter next to me, and Michelle is laughing hard.

I can't keep it in anymore.

I laugh out loud and it feels so good. Ashley and Ralph immediately notice, and look at us. Ralph shoots us a glare, while Ashley just looks disappointed. Michelle and I come out from our hiding places, and our smiles were wiped off.

"Ashley! This is not what you should be teaching the youth," Ralph says angrily. He stands up and brushes off his pants. His hands go to his bald head, and he wipes the dirt off.

He faces us.

"And you," he says in a sour tone, "this is not what a prince and a member of the castle should be behaving."

At this point my face was filled with worry, worry of what was going to happen to me. I looked next to me at Michelle, her face looked also nervous. I looked at Ashley, begging with my eyes that nothing bad was going to happen to us. Ralph opens his mouth to continue, but, thankfully, Ashley cuts him off.

"Well, it is almost lunch time," she says with a small smile. She looks at Ralph. "We should get going." She put a hand on my shoulder and Michelle's. She quickly ushered us out of the courtyard and into the castle, leaving Ralph outside.

Once we were safety inside, she told me to up to my room, and that she would call me for lunch. I walked through the long and complex hallways of the castle until I reached my room on the sixth floor. I reached to the door knob, and put my hand on it. I twisted it and pushed it open.

My room is large. No. That's a major understatement. It's massive. I didn't choose it, I was just placed in this room. Don't get me wrong, I love it. It's just so... Not me. It's grand and massive, I'm... Not. I'm just me, but I'm supposed to be this prince. I walk over to my bed and jump on. I lay down on my back and stare at the ceiling with my arms next to me.

Sometimes I wonder what it's like as a normal kid.

And that's when Ashley calls me for dinner........
