The next evening,

Jade's point of view

"Nooooooo we're not going to turn in the information to the police yet.We don't have any proof. No I don't need a ride I'm perfectly capable of going alone to Stan's house and snooping around for more proof.I'll be back in no time.Yeah right! I'll be lucky if I make it back home alive!"I scowled berating myself for having thought of this "oh so ingenious" plan to spy on Stan for more proof on the night of the bonfire.

The only night when the entire town goes to the farthest place from the comfort of their homes to have a good time. The only thing different about it this year was that I was probably the only one who hadn't gone.Atleast I hoped I was the only one and that Stan hadn't decided to stay back himself.

I shuddered at the thought of confronting Stan alone in his territory.

"Woof! Woof!" someone's dog barked in the distance, another began growling as I passed a house with a fence outlining the boundary bearing the sign,"Beware of the dog! It bites." Thankfully the dog was on a tight leash that ended a yard away from the front gate making it unable to attack me with it's sharp teeth.I passed the house quickly.

I should have a dog.A big, strong, ferocious looking dog that I can drag out with me on such nights. Specially when I'm about to break into the house of a psychopath.I was pondering about what I'd name my dog ( it was a tie between killer and Saber)when a cat jumped on the trash can and made my heart jump into my mouth.

"Stupid cat."I muttered.I normally don't have anything against cats but I hate it when they choose moments of eery silence to jump on a trash can and give someone an unprecedented jolt.

I gave the cat a dirty look muttering curses under my breath while it licked itself clean oblivious to my glares.

Something's wrong.I frowned trying to place my finger on it.

I looked around feeling the hair on the back of my neck standing straight.I swallowed and took a deep breath,my body tensed in anticipation.I sneaked a glance at the address of the house I was standing infront of and discovered to my relief I was still a block away from Stan's house. So why did I get the feeling that someone was watching my every move?

I didn't see lights on in any of the houses on that block. All the cars were gone from the driveways as well signifying everyone had left for the bonfire.I stood very still, waiting in the shadow, away from the street light, waiting and watching for anyone to make a sound or something but nothing happened. After a few minutes I felt out of breath and realized I had been holding my breath for a long time.I took deep gasps of breath and shook my head to clear out all thoughts of being watched and started to move forwards.I glanced around nervously when I caught a pair of eyes staring right at me.A silent scream rose in my throat before my observer started to hoot.

"Who,hoooo!"

I let out a shaky laugh realizing it was just an owl.

I relaxed slightly and chided myself mentally for being so nervous.I noticed my right hand was still tightly clasped around the stun gun in the pocket of my hoodie.

Suddenly I felt very grateful for my dad's paranoia about protection and thugs who prowled the streets. He had made me keep it with me whenever I left the house ever since I turned thirteen.I bowed my head slightly, pulling on my hood and brushing my hair away from my face.

After every few steps I stopped and swept the neighborhood with my eyes.I finally reached the turning point of the street from where I'd be walking on Stan's house street.

"This is it."I said under my breath, shaking my body like a wrestler about to step into the ring.It was a warm night but my body felt cold.I hesitated moving forward and tried to come up with a logical excuse.
