The Phoenix

Chapter 7

"Serena!" Alex yells. He takes a few steps forward but stops as the man behind me digs the knife further into my throat. Drawing blood. I squeeze my eyes shut and let out another squeak as he digs it into my throats and cuts off some of my air supply.
"If you take one more step... I will slit her throat." The man hisses behind me. Tears slip down my cheeks as he tightens his arm around my waist. I put my hands on his arm around me and kinda push on it to stop some of the pressure. He tries to tighten it more but I use as much strength as I can to push against his arm my body starting to shake with how much strength I'm having to use. I breathe heavily and look up at Alex. He clenches his jaw.
"KILLFIRE!!! Let her go!" He roars. My eyes widen a little as I realize who is holding me. Some of the crew take a step forward.
"If any of you make one more move toward me I'll kill her!" Killfire yells. Everyone stops in their tracks.
"What do you want?!" Alex yells. He looks at me and I glance down at my hands. Telling him that they are free and I can possibly fight my way out of this. He gulps and shakes his head slightly. I clench my jaw and purse my lip angrily as killfire laughs behind me.
"What do I want? I want you to suffer. I want to cause you all the pain there is in the world." He spits at Alex. I bite my lip and close my eyes taking a deep relaxing breath. Letting myself relax.
"Why? What did he do to you?" I ask softly. Then gasp and shut my mouth again and he lifts my chin with the knife giving him a better path to slitting my throat.
"I told you to stay quiet!" Killfire yells at me. I lift my chin a little more so that it will be easier for me to slide out of his grip. "The Phantom here killed the love of my life. Now I'm gonna return the favor!" He yells. I glance at Alex and he bites his lip as he looks at me.
"Look... you don't have to do this killfire. You don't. Hurt me instead. Kill me instead. Leave her out of this. She has nothing to do with this." Alex says.
"YOU KILLED... the love of my life!!! She was innocent as well! Now I'm going to show you how it felt! Killing your precious Serena here... will hurt you far worse than me killing you." He growls. "By the looks of this beautiful Lass... it's gonna be easy to be rid of her." He hisses in my ear. I smirk a little and lick my teeth angrily as I nod a little bit. Alex smiles a little at me.
"You picked the wrong girl to mess with, Fire." Alex says. Alex looks at me and I wink at him. He smiles. I take a short breath.
"Shut up you pig." Killfire growls. I raise an eyebrow. The crew and Alex all take a step back. I let out a small laugh.
"You know... I think you are underestimating who I am, Captain." I say. I stop pushing on his arm around my waist and grab his arm holding the knife to my throat at the same time as I elbow him in the ribs making him lose his grip on me. Killfire gasps and stumbles back. I push on his arm with the knife and get it away from my neck only cutting my jaw in the process. I swing around and elbow him in the nose and bring his arm down on my knee making it snap and he losses his grip on the knife. He screams in pain as I shove him against one of the masts and pin his broken arm in the middle of his back. "Alex was right. You messed with the wrong girl. Sad part is... I don't even know how to fight. No one has taught me anything. I just grew up with boys." I say. Alex laughs behind me and comes up to us. I keep Killfire pinned and look back at Alex. I smile at him. "I believe you called dibs on taking care of him, my love." I say softly. He grins and kisses me softly.
"That's my girl. Good job, baby." He says. I smile and kiss him back. Then move out of the way and let alex grab him. Once I know he has him so Killfire won't get away I let him go. I hold my stomach and let out a breath as I step back and out of the way. Finn and Harry run over to me and look me over.
  "Are you okay? Your neck. Your jaw. You are bleeding. How's your stomach?" Finn asks. I take a deep breath and lift my shirt so I can see the stitches. I sigh.
  "He just ripped a couple out. Killian can fix me up." I say softly. Right as I say that I see Killian and Raven appear at the top of the stairs. Their eyes widen and their eyes go from Alex and Killfire to me.
"Oh my god..." Raven says. Killian lets her go and runs over to me.
"What happened?!" He asks lifting my chin gently. I wince a little as the cut stretches.
  "Killfire here thought it was a good idea to try and kill Serena. She got out of it by herself. I'm very impressed. Now I get to deal with him." Alex says. I smile a little and look at Raven and Killian. Killian raises an eyebrow and nods.
"Wow. Okay. Um... proceed. Serena come sit down I'll fix you up." He says. I nod and follow him. As I pass Killfire I stop and pick up the knife he used on me. I hand it to Alex. He smiles at me.
"Have fun." I say. He shakes his head.
"You are definitely not a regular girl. No girl would ever really be okay with this." Alex says. I smile.
"I'm not normal. Am I? Plus... he tried to kill me. Make him pay for it." I say kissing Alex's cheek and then turning and Following Killian. Alex grins and turns back to Killfire as I sit down and watch him. Killian gets to work on fixing me up while I watch Alex.
  "Man she's a keeper... I hit the jackpot with this one." Alex growls in Killfires ear. "That is why..." he starts, throwing Killfire to the side. Killfire cries out in pain. "You are going to pay the price ten times over for trying to take her from me. Unlike your love... Serena is innocent. The love of your life... was a snake. She tried to kill me. I just stabbed her through the heart first." He hisses. I hiss in pain as Killian pours alcohol on my cuts to clean them.
  "Sorry. I'm sorry..." Killian says. I nod a little. Killfire death glares Alex.
  "She was no such thing! She was just trying to protect me! From you!" He yells standing to his feet. Alex laughs. "That's why your pretty little tramp over there is gonna die today." He spits. My head snaps up at his words and so does Alex's. As if in slow motion I see Killfires hand go to his belt and fling a throwing knife at me right as Alex tackles Killfire to the ground. I stand up and gulp hoping that standing up will keep it from hitting my heart where I'm sure he was aiming.
  "NO!" A voice screams. Next thing I know it goes from slow motion to it all happening at once. I gasp as I hear the knife hit its target. I hold my stomach. The whole world stops and everyone is staring at me. I let out a short breath and look down at my stomach. My eyes widen and my head snaps up. I scream and run forward as fast as I can.
  "HARRY!!! NO!!!" I scream catching him as he collapses to the ground. Tears burst from my eyes as I see the knife impaled itself into his chest. He jumped in front of me. I sink to the ground with him and hold him in my lap as I hug him close. "Harry.... Harry stay with me... please." I sob putting my hand around the knife and putting pressure on it to try and stop the bleeding. Getting blood all over me. I sob as he lays his head on my chest. I use my other hand to play with his hair. Killian comes over and takes my place putting pressure on the wound and trying to fix him. I move my hand and hug Harry closer.
"YOU SON OF A B-" Alex roars cutting his words off with the loud sound of him punching Killfire as hard as possible. I gulp and glance over seeing him beating the crap out of Killfire. Alex keeps going as hard as he can until he literally beats Killfire to death. When the crew knows he is dead for sure they have to drag Alex off of him.
  "You just seem to be a magnet for danger and death. Everything seems to want to kill you or hurt you." Harry says weakly. I look back at Harry and laugh a little with a sob.
  "I know. I'm so sorry. I'll try to demagnetize myself okay? Just stay with me." I say softly. I stroke his hair, pushing it out of his face. Harry closes his eyes and winces.
  "Serena..." he whispers. I shake my head as he lifts his hand to my cheek. I sob and lay my head into his hand as I lace my fingers in with his.
  "Harry no... no you gotta stay here. You can't leave. Alex needs you. I need you. Please..." I sob as I lay into his hand. He smiles a little at me and wipes my tears away with his thumb.
  "Serena... take care of Alex. Please. Take care of my crew." He says. I sob as my heart breaks a little and I shake my head. "You are strong Serena... Alex loves you... this crew needs you." He says. I shake my head.
  "No. No they need you more than me. Please. Please just... don't give up. Killian will fix you. Please. Please Harry." I sob. He coughs and blood spits out his mouth. I squeeze his hand and hug him closer. "Harry... please..." I sob harder.
  "Alex. Take care of Serena. You work well together. Don't ever let her go. Please." Harry says. I sniffle and look at alex. He nods at Harry.
  "I will mate. It's been a pleasure sailing with you at my side." Alex says. I shake my head more violently.
  "No. No. No! He can't go! Harry you can't go!" I say looking back at Harry. He looks back at me after patting Alex on the shoulder. He smiles at me.
  "Serena... it's been a pleasure knowing you love." He says. I sob and look down. I nod.
  "It's been a pleasure knowing you Harry. You shouldn't have jumped in front of the knife Harry you should have just let it hit me. Then you wouldn't be like this." I sob harder as my heart breaks even more. By the way everyone is looking at me, it seems as if they heard it break. "I'm so sorry Harry." I cry laying my head on his gently. He runs his fingers through my hair and kisses my forehead.
  "No... it's an honor to give my life for you Serena. I don't regret a thing. Look at me." He says. I sniffle and look down at him as I lift my head from his. I gulp and play with his hair. He coughs again and winces and cries out in pain. I whimper and squeeze his hand harder. "There is no other way I would have liked to go. It was my pleasure protecting you. You could be the answer to all of our prayers Serena. I believe that you are. Promise me... you will get Alex's brother back." He says. I gulp and let out a small sob as tears drop from my cheeks to his skin. I nod.
  "I promise. I'll do whatever I can Harry. I promise. And I will take care of all of these guys. You have my word that I will do my best to keep them alive and safe." I say softly. He nods at me.
  "Thank you." He says. I nod and he smiles a little. He goes into a coughing fit again and Killian gulps and tries to stop it from happening. "I love you guys." Harry chokes out. I gulp and we all whisper "I love you too." Back to him. He slowly goes limp in my arms and his breathing stops. New tears stain my cheeks as I let out a sob and hug him into me burying my face into his neck as I pull him into my lap as I sit fully on the ground. I wrap my arms around his body and just hold him as close as possible. Alex gulps and comes over. Sitting behind me and pulling me into a hug as he wraps his arms around me and around Harry's body.
  "Shh. It's okay love. It's gonna be okay." Alex says his voice cracking and I can tell his heart just broke some too. I lay into his chest as I hug Harry and he rubs my back.
  After a while I cry myself to sleep in Alex's arms with Harry's body in my lap. I feel someone pick me up and I feel someone take Harry out of my arms.
  "N-No..." I whisper in my sleep. Only half awake. But my body is so exhausted that I can't wake back up.
  "It's okay baby. I just taking you to bed. You need rest." Alex's voice says. I sigh in my sleep and feel myself getting laid on the bed and the blankets pulled over me. Then I feel Alex slide in next to me and wrap me up in his arms. "Go back to sleep love." He says softly kissing my forehead and playing with my hair. I gulp and quickly let the darkness overtake me once again.
