chapter one
shakhs
The heavy rain covered the bus's window as I stared at Maine's countryside, even though Maine was full of it. My eyes turned towards the bus's front window and excitement pulsed through me.
Infront of the bus stood a giant school, it was protected by high steel gates plus guards, and in it's interior five large buildings stood. One of the guards stomped through the rain and knocked on the bus driver's window.
"It's hard to belive you have only one." The guard murmured and shot a glance at me, I began to sweat.
"Special orders from ye principal." The bus driver's southern voice bellowed. The guard backed away from the window and motioned for the other guards to open the gate.
I held my face against the soaked window. The only reason I came from Maryland to Maine was because my mom said a school "offered to have me." I never expected it to be a nice school since she makes so little money.
I shot up against the seat infront of me as the bus came to a hault.
"Off." The bus driver mumbled. I grabbed my suit cases and hopped off and into a puddle on the ground, my rain boots caused water to go everywhere. The bus rushed off behind me, tossing more water my way.
Before I went inside the biggest building I looked around. In it's front there was a nice water fountain with a statue of a egyptian feline pouring water out of a vase. The sides of the fountain were slightly overflowing. All around the building were four more buildings, two of them were half of the main building's size, and two other buildings that were a tiny bit smaller and looked like the dorms.
I rubbed my wet boots on a carpet that said, 'Welcome to Deities High!'I let out a long sigh and stopped infront of a empty desk.
"Um, hello?" My voice echoed off of the walls of the big room. I began to shake off the water droplets from my raincoat when a voice broke the silence.
"Y..you told me she'd be here in the morning!" Somebody screamed but very quietly. Then a second silent voice yelled out, "I was told she'd be here in the middle of the night!"
I fumbled to get my phone out of my pocket. I pressed the button on my lock screen then hit the emergency call button that already had my mom's phone number locked in it.
"You're vice, you deal with it!" The second voice said then it disappeared by the sounds of walking.
I felt my stomach churn. What kind of school is this.. I thought, I need to leave asap, this is a school for rich kids. I am not at the correct place-
"Hello there!" that first voice interrupted my thoughts. I looked through my soaking hair to the staircase and my gaze fell on a very thin man, he wore a white shirt with a black bow tie, brown cargo pants, and both of his wrists were covered with bracelets and inspirational wristband things.
"You must be the new kid!" This man was way too happy to exist. "I guess, yeah.." He slid down the staircase and ran towards me.
Holy shit back up. The man stood infront of me, heavily panting. "It's..huff...nice to..huff..meet you.." I had my hand to my waist, waiting to grab my phone.
His hair was a dark brown that was still close to blonde, his eyes a light blue like the sky, and his skin was fairly pale. Even though I'm tall as Hell for my age, he towered above me.
He fixed his tie and stared at me with a wide smile. "I'm vice principal Keith Daveed, or Mr.Daveed." He held out his hand but I was too scared to shake it.
"We can fix that!" Mr.Daveed held my back and motioned me toward the red carpeted stairs.
"Before we can accept you into the school we have to ask you a few questions." His voice was light but just deep enough for an adult. I could try to make a fool out of myself, than I'll have to be sent home..
...
So far Mr.Daveed's office was the smallest room I've seen in this whole school, and it was twice the size of my bedroom.
"So Elizabeth, tell me about yourself."
I began to sweat. "E..Elizabeth?" The vice principal's smile slowly began to turn into a frown."What is your name?" His words grew more stricter. I pulled at my shirt collar. "Uh, my name is Liberty Anne Joseph Lynn.." My voice cracked as I said my abnoxious full name.
"Alrighty!" Daveed shuffled through his papers anxiously, "What are your hobbies?"
"Uh.." Fuck it up Libby. "Oh I loo~" I hung onto the 'o' as I looked around the room and spotted a patch of tape over the glass window. "-ve.. to.. break windows and do pranks that scar people's lives." Daveed glanced up from his papers with one eyebrow arched.
"Oh ya.. I'm a total frickin cool kid." Lmao wtf Libby you had him. I looked down at the desk and began to fumble around with my phone case out of embarrassment.
"Do.. you have any special talents?" His voice turned anxious. You love instruments and singing. "I play eletric guitar on full blast and scream rock music songs." Daveed was slowly showing worry on his face.
"And.. you are sixteen?" I immediately shook my head no. "Uh, fourteen." Daveed slammed his papers on his desk.
"I'll be back before you can say rabies!" The vice principal exited his office and began talking to the girl that was working at the desk infront of his office.
She's the second voice I heard. Their argument was muffled because of the closed door so I decided to crack it open. But right when I was about to do that Mr.Daveed came in.
I hopped back into my seat, which made a loud squeaking noise. Mr.Daveed held a folder that said 'Liberty A.J Lynn'.
"Ahh, here we go." I felt my palms grow sweaty with nervousness. Did he see me get back in my chair?
Daveed sat in his chair and dug through the folder. Finally he dug out a document that was stapled to another piece of paper and handed it to me.
I looked at him searching for an answer.
"It's much easier if you just read it." Daveed mumbled and flipped the paper over to the second page. "I'm fresh out of college and don't know how to explain such life changing things." He confessed. I looked down at the paper and mumbled the words as I read them.
"Dear Liberty Lynn,
we have been notified by your mother that you are related to the principal of this school. Because he has not paid child care and hasn't been in your life we are offering you to join our highschool. Deities High is the most expensive private school in America. If you deny this than you will go home with nothing. If you stay you can meet your father and get into a good college.
