I poked at the brown slop on the styrofoam tray of me. Definitely not edible. I scoot my tray away, and pick up my book.

The best part about sitting alone, is you don't have to talk to anybody. Less talking, more reading. To Kill a Mockingbird, has always been my favorite book. I've never really understood why, but this was my seventh time reading it. It's not a newish book, but it's still good.

I look up from my book for a few seconds when I hear laughing a few tables near me. A table packed full of cheerleaders, male athletes, and petty girls, were laughing at some kid that fell and got food all over his face. Frankly, I didn't understand the comedic value coming from this, but they were laughing to tears.

I rushed over to help the kid, who I recognized as Ned. I remember him from 6th grade. We were the only two kids that went to the battle of the books info meeting.

"Hey, you okay?" I say as I help Ned up.

"Just fabulous," he sarcastically replies, "thanks bro."

Just then Jacob, football captain, hooted above the laughter, "I'm dying over here! Oh, hey look! Lonely Oli is helping Nerdy Ned! Oh I can't breathe! Daisy, are ya seeing this?"

It made sense that Daisy and Jacob were dating. I guess it's the fact that Jacob was popular, and Daisy was beautiful. Other girls were pretty, but she, was gorgeous. Blue eyes someone could drown in. Not skinny, not fat, just right. And she was actually very sweet. I just don't understand how Daisy, who has a pure heart, can be attracted to a jerk like Jacob.

When Daisy and I were kids, she was my best friend. Hard to believe, but we used to play out in my tree house, and look for treasure. Her body used to get caked with dirt, and her blue eyes still blue and bright. She was even pretty caked in dirt. But 7th grade came, and she stopped talking to me. She got popular fast. I should've seen it coming.

I leaded ned back over to my table, I had plenty of room, that's for sure.
