The unforgiving sun blazed down upon my tanned body as I lay against the spiral patterned towel at the beach of Isla Nublar. I was surrounded by a swarm of navy blue sun beds and umbrella's as people paraded around half naked in their swimwear to enjoy the strong sun rays of Central America.
Sighing to myself I reach down to the side of my own sun bed to take a swig of my warm water. Even in the shade of my own blue umbrella it was hot. Many people were swimming and paddling to cool off in the aqua blue sea with the white sand dancing beneath the waves. A tranquil amongst the heaving beach.
Walking along the shoreline was my boys. Owen holding onto Daniels hand as he totted along unsteadily on his feet in the shallow water. Daniel had his sun protective bright red jacket on with matching hat and a dark blue swim shorts; Owen had board shorts and went without a vest he helped his son along in the shallow waves.
Daniel, having demanded a paddle in the warm water once he had woken from his afternoon nap had Owen jumping at the chance to please his son before he has to return to work in an hours time. Sighing and glancing to the panting form of Solo as he lies in the shade beside me, I hook a finger over my sun glasses and ask the inquisitive dog a question,
"Should we go join them?" I smile before putting the book I was previously immersed in reading into the beach bag we had. Solo jumping to his large paws and giving a lazy stretch with a whine, scaring some of the people around us who had forgotten the large dog was there as he napped quietly. A lot of children having stopped as they wandered passed to pet the friendly dog- more of them interested in the pure size of the Great Dane than some of the dinosaurs they could go and visit instead.
With a small click of my tongue, the large dog was at my heel, his large head pressed against my thigh as I walked towards my boys; the hot sand still slightly damp from this mornings downpours. Most of the people on the beach making the most of the few hours of sun before the rain would return with vengeance in the evening.
Owen spots me first with a smile as he holds Daniel up by his arm as a small wave knocks the small boy off his feet. Setting him back down Owen says something to Daniel before the little boy is screaming with happiness and looking around the busy beach,
"Mummy" he calls as I laugh.
"Where's mummy's little boy?" I call as I get closer. Solo bounding off into the waves, past the small boy and tackling Owen into the water. Owen landing ungracefully as the large dog jumps up and begins bounding around him, wanting to play as his owner spits out the slat water from his gasp for breath as he fell onto his back. Jumping back up to his feet Owen begins flicking the glinting water from his now, soaking, hair (I ignore the trailing eyes of some of the women around him as he begins walking towards me; his well defined body also creating some envious glances from the male species)."Damn, dog," He grumbles as he splashes the happy dog with some water. Myself, biting my lip as I try to stop the giggle so desperate to escape.
"There's my baby" I coo as I pick my little boy up off his feet and straight into my arms, showing his face with kisses so that he giggles and screams so that he can give a huge wet kiss on my cheek.
"Hiya!" he giggles as he throws his arms around my neck before placing another very wet kiss on my cheek, "Lowe you," he beams before wriggling in my hold to be placed back down in the shallow water.
"Love you too, baby," I smile. His small hand instantly finding mine as another wave pushes against his unsteady feet in the water. His happy giggles instantly creating a smile of my own on my face as I watch him try to jump over the small waves.
Solo bounding around us as he dances in the crisp water. His large tail splashing the cool liquid onto our warm skin as he happily barks and bounds around.
"Soso!" Daniel giggles as he reaches out with his free hand for the crazy dog. The large beast that towers over the small child haunches down on his front paws with his butt and tail wagging enthusiastically in the air. Ready to play.
Taking the small child's distracted attention as an opportunity, Owen quickly scoops the small boy up into his strong arms; Daniel emitting a surprised squeal as his father throws him up into the air. The few moments that Daniel appears to be flying above his fathers outstretched arms has a large smile upon the boys face.
Landing, safely, back in Owen's hold the young boy giggles uncontrollably as he demands to be throw again, and again, and again, and again. Until eventually, Owen has grown bored.
So he throws our child at my credulous form.Screaming in panic, as the small child soars towards myself over the seemingly ever increasing distance that, in reality, couldn't be much further than a metre; I thrust out my arms and manage to secure my beloved child against my chest as he falls into my arms. My stomach had given a huge lurch mere moments ago, meaning my arms were shaking as I turn to face Owen with a deadly glare. He could have dropped our child!
My glare doesn't last very long as Owen had charged over the inadequate distance between us to scoop my petite frame up and into his robust chest- spinning us around in circles as he holds us bridal style- Daniel tucked away neatly into my own arms giggling away as if this was the most fun he had in a while.
The refreshing water splashed up at our forms as Owen danced around in the water, to which Solo tried to catch the droplets that were tossed in his bounding direction.
Our little fiasco attracting attention of sun kissed visitors in the surrounding proximity. Neither one of our small family giving a damn about it- we deserve to have our cute moment.Owen smoothly leans his head down to capture my lips with his own. A gentle kiss as he stops our spinning and holds my content form against him.
"No! Stop!" Daniel cries as he moves in my arms so that he can push his small hands against our cheeks to prise us apart. Small chuckles escaping Owen and I as we look into our sons emerald eyes. His cheeks still red from all his laughing were puffed out as he pouts at us. Looking back and forth between his parents as if they had just hidden his favourite DVD...again.He then takes his small hand and pats his cheek.
"Mine?"
He begin giggling once again when Owen and I smother his face in kisses. The small boy, squirming away from all the sudden affection.Large droplets of rain suddenly begin thrashing down from the now raging sky above- interrupting our moment. Placing my feet down gently, Owen quickly whistles for Solo to heel and stop his previous splashing in the water. The large dog instantly having it's head propped against his owners large thigh as we make a dash back towards our things and to escape the torrenting rain. The cold droplets a stark contrast to the blazing sun that warmed our skin beforehand.
Grabbing the bag and towels, we quickly make a run for the jeep parked not to far away. Some, unfortunate, visitors having to take cover under the large umbrellas as they would have to wait for the next mono-rail."All strapped in?" Owen asks a sulking Daniel as he jumps behind the wheel of he jeep. Solo Sucre in the boot and myself hoping into the passenger seat before Owen drive us home.
"Come on, squirt. You've gotta smile all day today because it's momma's birthday!" Owen tries to distract Daniel from the fact that his fun afternoon at he beach had been ruined by the premature rain fall.
Daniel manages a small smile as he begins plying with his fingers in his lap.
"When is it my birthday, dad?" He asks inquisitively.
"Oh, not for another thirty years, buddy," Owen jokes.
"What! But that's ages!"
Owen turns to me, taking his eyes of the road for a second, to take my much paler hand in his own. Providing a cheeky wink as he does so, proud at his little joke with his gullible son.
"Tease," I whisper, sticking my tongue out childishly at my husband as he drives us back home.
