"Hey....wake up...."

Rustle.

"[Miss/Sir], wake up please!"

I groaned and I grudgingly opened my eyes, awakened by a stranger's voice. The first thing I noticed was that I was outside on the cold, hard ground.
"What....where.....?" I slurred sluggishly, while surveying the area around me. I came to find that the place was in desperate need of being mowed, and it seemed I had some company.
A male was crouched down next to me with wide, panicked eyes. His hair was scraggly, his clothes were torn and blood stained, and he had various cuts on his face and arms.
"Oh thank god..." he breathed, and tried to hurriedly get me up.
"Wait-wait, what are you doing? Where am I? Who are you?" I questioned as he helped me stand, causing my bones to pop multiple times.
"Hurry!" He whispered in a rushed manner, and dragged me along with him to a thick patch of tall grass.
He scanned the area around us before letting out a tense sigh, and he turned to me.
"I'm Jake, and we're currently trapped in a closed area in the forest with a murderer." He explained, and I felt the color drain from my face.
"What...." I breathed, and my eyes widened as a tall, burly man approached Jake's back. I hurriedly tapped his arm and pointed behind him before scrambling to my feet and stumbling away.
I heard Jake's cry of pain and felt guilt swell up in my chest, but quickly pushed the feeling away.
'Survival of the fittest. Run or die.'
I tried to think back to anything that might help me in this situation, but being a mechanic didn't bring you far in the survival category.
I caught sight of a flickering light bulb, and stared at it while I stopped to take a breather. Once I caught my breath I walked over to investigate the light, and once I realized what it was connected to I felt a surge of relief.
'Something familiar, something I'm actually good at...'
I rushed to a side where I could easily view my surroundings, and where I would be least vulnerable. Once I squatted down to look at the generator my heart dropped.
'It'll take like ten minutes to fix this! So many gears and wires have been disconnected and messed with.'
"I can do this...." I muttered, and placed my hands in the machine and began connecting and moving gears. I came to find that some wires looked similar, and a few gears would try to fall if you moved a few specific gears around.
"Dammit..." I mumbled, accidentally dropping a gear. I reached down to pick it up and then I heard the soft pitter patter of footsteps. I snapped my head up and saw a female making her way to me.
I had to stop myself from running away, after all she was just another survivor. She probably wants to get out as much as I do.
I grabbed the gear and turned back to the generator, now being highly aware of my surroundings.
'Dropping that gear messed up the progress and alerted everyone of my location....I'm such an idiot.'
I nearly messed up again when the female spoke,
"You might wanna run before Mr. Psycho gets over here." She informed, and I nodded, parting with the generator.
As we ran away a loud 'ding' noise sounded, and a lightbulb lit up brightly. I guess it was notifying that a generator was fixed, and if we can see it and hear it-the killer could too.
"1 down 4 to go...." I muttered, then the female and I hid behind a large tree.
"How do you know that?" She questioned, startling me. I looked at her and examined her in one glance, not wanting to seem creepy.
"I uh, I'm a mechanic. It's kind of common knowledge for me, especially with doors that big." I explained shyly, and she raised her eyebrows.
"Well that's handy, but I'm guessing you don't have much survival skills." She stated, already reading my disadvantage.
I nodded and did a quick survey of the area before returning my gaze to her.
"Nea."
I blinked in surprise, and then she held out her hand.
"O-oh! I'm (Y/N)." I responded, shaking her hand gently. She gave a small smirk and then turned her head,
"We shouldn't get too comfortable with each other, we both have high chances of dying." She said, a small bit of ice leaking into her voice.
'She's not wrong....but that stings.'
I nodded and silently made my way to the nearest generator, Nea followed me easily. When we got there I once again picked the least revealing spot, but a spot where I could survey my surroundings easily.
Nea had an approving and surprised look on her face when I settled down, and she sat down in the second best spot.
"Smart move for someone like you." She grunted, and joined in on repairing the generator.
'Someone like me?'
I shook off the comment and put a bit more effort into the generator, wanting to get out of this creepy forest as fast as possible.
I nearly jumped out of my skin when the generator let out a loud 'ding' and lit up, pumping to life powerfully.
I heard Nea let out a small snort next to me, and I turned and glared at her with a small smirk.
"We should go before he gets here." I spoke, and turned away to leave. As soon as I did I heard Nea let out a startled gasp mixed with a cry of pain.
I quickly spun around and saw that Nea sprawled out on the ground with the burly killer standing over her.
She had her eyes clenched shut, and when she opened her eyes she had a few tears in her eyes.
"No-" I looked up at the killer to see him bend down and pick Nea up, making her let out a few pained grunts, and carried her away.
I clenched my fists and grinded my teeth slightly in anger.
'You're not taking her away!'
I pushed down all of my fear and ran after them, easily catching up on the small distance.
I ducked behind a wooden planked wall and waited for him to leave. As I stood there I heard Nea yell out in agony, and I clenched my fists tightly-making my nails dig into my palms.
'Why is this happening?'
I took a quick glance around the corner to see the killer stomping away-and Nea hanging loosely from a hook.
My eyes widened and I ran forwards, and I used everything in me to lift her from the hook.
When she was down I let her hop on my back so I could carry her away without injuring her further. When I reached a safe spot-that was far away from any hooks-I let Nea slide off my back.
Her feet hit the ground and she stumbled slightly, her shoulder heavily bleeding. I quickly rushed forwards and pushed away the fabric at her shoulder that was covering the wound. She turned her head in the opposite direction of me, not wanting to see it.
I furrowed my brows and looked around, hoping to find something to help. My heart sank as I realized there was nothing. All I could do was wrap a strip of cloth from my shirt around her wounded shoulder.
She turned her head back when I stepped away from her, and her face was a little red.
"You alright?" I questioned, glancing around quickly. Nea nodded and she made a sudden step forwards and wrapped an arm around me in a hug.
I let out a startled gasp and stumbled backwards, nearly losing my footing and falling.
"Nea?" I breathed in a questioning tone, shocked that the cold hearted female was clinging to me.
"Screw what I said, I'm not losing you..." she whispered, making my eyes widen. I let her embrace linger for a few more second before pulling her away and staring at her.
"Why the sudden change of heart?" I tilted my head in confusion, but all she did was stare at me silently, "Nea?"
She reached a hand up and cupped the side of my face, and brushed her thumb back and forth across my cheek. I stared at her in utter confusion, and I saw her gaze scan my face slowly.
'What's happening....?!'
"N-Nea?" I questioned again, and I watched as her gaze lingered on my lips. I felt my heart flutter nervously in my chest, realizing that if this went where I thought it would....
'First kiss...'
She leaned forward quickly and pressed her lips against mine, and before I could register what happened she had pulled away. I stood with my mouth hanging open in slight shock, my eyelids halfway closed, and a small pant escaping my mouth.
Nea's face was a bright red as she looked at the ground, and I couldn't control myself after that.
I reached forward, tilted her chin up, and pressed my lips against hers. With my lack of experience it was very....sloppy and short lived.
When I pulled away Nea was a darker shade of red and she seemed to be struggling to breath.
"Holy shit...." she breathed, and rested a hand over her heart. She looked star struck and beyond shocked.
In the background two more generators lit up, I turned my head to try and focus on what was happening.
'That happened so fast, and I reacted with no hesitation...but we need to get back on track!'
"W-we can sort this out once we escape...but we need to get moving again." I stuttered, watching as Nea collected herself.
She nodded and we both started walking towards the next generator, mentally tabbing we needed 2-
Ding!
Well, one more.
'We get this done, the sooner we can leave. Which means the sooner I can-'
I shook my head of my thoughts and focused on the generator, fixing it with professional skill and speed.
I sighed in relief as the generator lit up, but my relief was quickly drowned by the blade that sunk into my shoulder.
"Agh!" I yelped painfully, making Nea snap her head towards me. I felt the blade yank out of my shoulder and I hurriedly scrambled away from the killer.
I grabbed Nea's hand and pulled her along, clenching my jaw painfully. I felt Nea pick up her pace as she recovered from the shock of the turn of events.
I could hear the footsteps getting closer and I shoved Nea to the side and the blade sliced through the air where our hands were connected seconds before.
"Run! Get the gates open!" I yelled at Nea, turning sharply to avoid another hit, which sent me running into a tree.
I grunted in pain as I fell down. I rolled to the side and jumped up as the killer attempted another hit.
'Fuck, I'm not gonna make it much longer...'
I quickly dove between two trees, and commenced a painful roll. I scrambled back up and took off towards the large doors, as I heard them alerting us they were about opened.
"Come on, come on...." I strained, pumping my legs as fast as I could, and found myself getting dizzy.
"(Y/N)!" Nea yelled, making me snap my head up and barely avoid running into a tree.
I gasped in exhaustion as I reached her, but I pushed onwards, desperate to escape alive with Nea.
I heard the pounding footsteps behind me getting closer, and I urged Nea on with a weak shove. She glanced back and her eyes widened, she fell back and placed herself behind me.
Next thing I heard was her yell of pain. I spun around and saw Nea slouched, blood oozing out of her shoulder.
I quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her through the exit, and as the killer tried to follow a bunch of tendrils like arms shot out of the ground. The killer attempted to hit the tendrils, but his weapon nearly bounced off.
'We're safe....'
Nea and I walked a little farther, and then I turned and began patching up her shoulder the best I could.
As soon as I finished she patched me up, and I moved my arm a little to test my boundaries of the bandages.
"(Y/N)...about earlier-"
She cut herself off as I reached forward and cupped her face in my hands, followed by a small peck on her lips.
"What about it?" I questioned, and Nea seemed to be struggling with her words.
"I-I like you...a l-lot...and I know we met not that long ago! But...I dunno, there's just something irresistible about you..."
I laughed at her and she looked hurt, but I quickly shook my head.
"I'm not laughing at you, just the fact that you could find anything irresistible about me. I'm just me."
Nea shook her head in disbelief,
"Don't say that!" She gripped my shirt, but in a way that she was aware of my injuries. She pulled me forwards and pressed her lips against mine, and wrapped her arms around my neck.
I trailed my hand to the back of her head and pressed my palm against her head gently. She slowly pulled away, our eyes fluttering open. I stared at her, brushing a bit of hair out of the way gently.
"We made it Nea...." I whispered, resting my forehead on hers.
"We did, didn't we?"
"That or I'm in heaven..." I grinned, hearing her breathing falter slightly.
"Oh-I-you..." Nea fumbled, not sure how to respond. I laughed and merely hugged her again, burying my face in the crook of her neck.
"I'll never leave you, that you can count on...." I muttered, and I heard her let out a happy hum.

Hey guys, sorry that this took longer than expected. I planned on posting it on my birthday, but I ended up spending that day with my boyfriend and family. So I decided I'll finish and upload the chapter today! The next one I'll try to finish a bit quicker, but I'm so happy to be writing these again and playing the game. DBD is just a plain obsession at this point, and the creators know they have us all hooked(fufufu). The game has updated quite a bit, giving me more to work with, and I'm so excited. Thank you all for being patient and reading this, I can't believe I have 12.4k reads! I love you all so much, thank you guys! <3
