Chapter 6 Surprises

Lauren POV

I was really scared for Emma. I mean she is one of two girls my age and we were really close. She can be tough when she wants to, but lately whenever she sees fire she totally freaks out. She won't even go near our flames, Cierra and Ben. She knows Cierra would never be mean to her and use her powers unnecessarily in front of Emma. But Ben can be really mean and he probably would just to make her scream.

In the arena there was a wall of fire. We tried our hardest to get through quickly but it failed. After most people had gone it was just me, James, Emma, Lucy, the streams, and the flurries. The arena was square and had hills and mountains and lava streams. It was actually quite beautiful really. The streams and flurries were getting weaker and we had Emma go next. She wanted Lucy to go in front of her, but Lucy was way to selfless. And me and James wouldn't let her go after us. We were pretty sure that Emma was going to need backup and that we might get some burns. We really didn't care though she was my family, her and everybody else too. So she went, she sprinted for a couple meters then slowed down. She then looked around terrified and collapsed.

James and I looked at each other and dived in. The fire was hotter than most fire I had been exposed to during the time in this place. She was rolling around screaming and she rolled herself into the fire we grabbed her resulting in massive burns on our arms but not as bad as hers. We ran through the measly path and through the doors. I then saw a wall of fire speeding in the streams and flurries were right in front of the wall, but Lucy wasn't in sight. Lucy had given her life into the fire for me, James, and Emma. I was so grateful. We put her down on a blanket in the middle of the room and decided to see if she was alive. I checked for a pulse there was one but it was getting fainter and fainter. Until it disappeared.

"Her pulse is gone" I screamed. James looked up from where he was sitting and gave her mouth-to-mouth. She then started breathing again. She fluttered open her eyes and then closed them.

Many Hours Later

"Are......You" Emma says.

" Emma's awake. She's awake"James says. I ran from the corner I had retreated to and saw her. She didn't have a very high fever anymore and the burns had gotten a little better. She would probably have trouble later with he next arena. I hide my burns, being my usual self I don't want her to see, that she gave me these burns because she would probably feel really guilty. I can tell because when she saw James' burns the look on her face was a guilty one. James says something and she frowns and he walks away.

"Lauren, come over here." I do and immediately she asks what happened. "Do you really want to know." I say. "Yes!" I tell her the story all the while using a flimsy jacket Olivia gave me and arms to cover my burns. I hesitate when I get to Lucy's death. But I still go on. When I finish she tells me to take off my jacket. I refuse at firs, but finally do. "Wow there really bad." She says. "Not as bad as yours and James. You now when you slowed down. He sprinted towards you before I even knew what was happening. You should probably get some more sleep before the next arena." "Ya, I probably should."

The arena doors open and I wake Emma up. We walk up to the doors and there isn't anything there. what the heck. I guess we have another day before we fight again. That's odd, well this place definitely isn't normal.
