Naureen

"Miss Naureen, you here?" He asked.

"Yeah... Saif didn't show up in school so I thought to check on him" I replied fidgeting with the  sleeves of my dress.

"Yeah....he took a leave for about a week... Should've informed you." he muttered.

"He will be coming from tomorrow, right Saif" I said looking at Saif.

"Yes. I will" Saif replied, smiling.

He raised his brow. "Really?"

"Ahan"  I and Saif said in unison, nodding.

We all chuckled and I said,"I must leave now".

"Jazakallah, kind of you to come" He beamed at me.

"Wa iyyakum" I beamed back.

I waved my hand to Saif and left.

*******

We finished dinner. I helped aunty with cleaning.

"Aunty, I want to talk to you about something" I said in a low voice, dragging my last words.

I didn't tell anyone about Saif. I can't hide things from my aunt. I need to tell her.

"Yes Noor?" She asked.

"Um..not here let's go to my room" I said looking at her.

"Okay" she replied, looking at me skeptically.

"Noor, is everything alright? You seem a bit tensed" she asked settling on my bed after we reached our room.

"Um..yeah"

I took a seat beside her.

"I don't know from where to start...."

"What happened? Your making me worried Noor" she said, frowning.

I took a deep breath.

"There is a boy named Saif, he studies in school in VI grade. He is a bright student but from a last few weeks his behaviour has changed. He's marks have been reduced. He sits all alone, doesn't talk with anyone. I tried to ask him the reason but didn't said anything. So I called his dad and asked him to visit but I being a lunatic forgot about the meet; and he too didn't showed up. Then during Sidra's wedding, I saw Saif, he came with his dad. I talked with his dad, he said he lost his......wife and Saif is bit disturbed by his mother's death. And Saif's mother..  died....in bus accident which took place that day, her name is..... Razia" I swallowed hard.

"Razia?? The lady who helped you that day?" She asked, bewildered.

"Y-Yes it's her" I felt guilt swallowing me up.

"Did you tell him about this?"she asked, putting her hand on mine.

"No....I couldn't face them" I replied ,honestly.

"Last week Mr.Hamid, Saif's dad came to school. He asked me to help out Saif. I agreed to this, but Saif didn't show up in school, so today I visited him. I talked with him. Maybe my words will work for him.
Aunty, did I do the right thing?"

"Yes Noor. I'm proud of you. That little boy must have gone through a lot. You did the right thing-had a talk with him. And about Razia, I have already told you that it was all destined by Allah (SWT). That day your life was to be saved. If something is destined for us, never in a million years will it be for somebody else."

I hugged her tight, tears brimming in my eyes.

"Now you just relax and sleep peacefully. Pray to Allah (SWT), everything will be fine." She patted my forehead.

I nodded.
Just then my phone beeped, indicating a new message received. It was from Ayaan.

I'm coming to your house.
Want to talk something very important.
See you in a few minutes.

It was very late, but it was important so I sent

Okay

Aunt was about to leave when my bedroom door knocked and in came Ayaan.

"Ayaan? Now?" Aunty frowned."Is everything okay?"

"Yeah..I bought ice cream for you guys." He said.

"I'm feeling sleepy, you both enjoy the ice cream." She yawned, gave us a smile and left.

Minutes later, Ayaan and I were sitting on my bed, with appropriate distance between us.

"So tell me, what is it?" I asked folding my legs, taking a spoonful of icecream from the tub.

He rubbed the back of his neck "uh..I don't know how to put this up.."

"Say it Ayaan" I curiously demanded.

He took a deep breath and said the words that made me choke on my Ice cream,

"Noor, I think I'm in love"
