The bright sun illuminated our prison cell, giving me a perfect view of my surrounding area. The cell looked a lot better when I couldn't see it.

Snow was still asleep in her corner, her face relaxed, giving off the impression of innocence. But I knew she was far from it. It made me wonder what kind of soldier was she to get herself captured or what condition her village was in.

I rose to my feet and began to pace the short distance I could, ideas running through my head because escaping was all I could think about all night. I didn't sleep last night because all perfect plans are only be created if my mind was awake and if I had time. Sleep would find me when I needed it most but now, I had more important matters to handle.

"Please, stop moving. I am trying to sleep," Snow whispered, her right eye opening to glare at me. I scoffed and continued to pace. "What is troubling you?"

Stopping in my tracks, I stared at her with wide eyes. Was what was troubling me not obvious? "We're imprisoned."

"There is no escaping, Dallis. You are but only a human and they are demons from hell. You have no chance."

"We have as many chances as we make for ourselves. I am not only a human, I am a human and we are capable of great things when our minds are set on it." I resumed the pacing. Snow groaned and threw her head back.

"They're going to be angry with you."

"Let them be."

As if on cue, a guard approached our cell's bars. Her face could not be seen but I knew she was a beautiful demon, protected by the armor that encaged her body. Her armor rattled when she pulled open our door and the sunlight bounced off of the metal when she threw our food onto the stone ground. She used the tip of her boot to slide it over in our directions.

I noticed she was unarmed and that she was right handed by how she used her dominant limb to open or close the door. I also noticed her hands were covered in gloves but no real protection. When she left, I turned towards Snow.

She was devouring her food, not even caring that it was grey and mushy. I scrunched up my nose in disgust.

"What is it?" She only shrugged her shoulders in response and I decided it wasn't worth my time to eat the food. I didn't trust it and I had a better idea anyway.

Using the side of my hand, I scraped the mush off of the porcelain plate it sat on. Those demons were stupid to give such an item to me. They thought so highly of themselves, thinking a human couldn't possible harm a supernatural being. But they had never met me before.

I threw the plate down, in a way that it broke in half.

"What are you doing?" Snow asked, her eyes wider than I had ever seen. She was scared of these beast but I was not. I was taught to survive and to suppress my emotions.

"Escaping." I, first, tried to use the piece of porcelain as a wedge between my wrist and the cuff. Using all my might, I forced the two apart from each other, causing the edge of the plate to bury into my skin until blood was drawn. Other than my injury, there was no damage to the cuff. "Shit."

"Nothing is going to work."

I ignored her. Instead, my hands moved to the stone wall behind me, feeling for the loose rock I had discovered during the night. When I found the rock sitting proudly above my head, I dug my fingers into the cracks, pulling at the stone, despite the breaking of my fingernails.

"It's a wall, Dallis."

Groaning, I struggled to pull it free, sweat accumulating on my brow and reminding me how hot it was in this dungeon. I could feel a thin sheet of sweat forming over my arms and legs but I chose to ignore it. "Come on," I whispered to the rock. To my surprised, it listened and fell free.
