A Talenny Story: Book 2

The Mall

I smirked as Kayla ran out of a mini cafe to greet us. Josh was so going to get it.

"O-m-g!" she squealed, "Penny you're back!"

She ran and hugged me tightly. I winced slightly as she put some pressure on my shoulder.

"Careful, Kay," I said and she immediately jumped off.

"Oops sorry! I'm just so happy to see you! What Talon did was so not ok!" she began to rant on how Talon was a jerk and I heard a soft cough behind me.

We turned around to see Josh there, completely forgotten.

Quickly taking the small break of silence as his gateway, he stuck his hand out and smiled," Hi I'm Josh, I'm Penny new bo-"

"Boyfriend!" Kayla squealed, "Oh wow Penn! I didn't think you would move so fast from Talon!" her voice dropped to a whisper, "But he is kind of cute!"

Josh blushed and shook his head, "No no it's not like tha-"

"Sure it's not!" she winked at him, "Don't worry I can keep a secret!"

"Sure you can," Josh rolled his eyes.

I smirked, yup Josh was not going to last.

"Josh is not my boyfriend. He's my new stupid bodyguard," I corrected.

"Bodyguard?" Kayla echoed and I nodded, "But you don't need one! You're totes able to take care of yourself!"

I nodded, "I am!"

Josh shook his head and said at the same time, "She's not."

I rolled my eyes but then leaned over to whisper in Kayla's ear, "Care to show him your superpower?"

Kayla took that as her cue and squealed. She rushed over to Josh's arm and grabbed it. Then she began to talk a mile a minute. I giggled but then I remembered that something similar happened with Talon. That seemed so long ago...... My smile faded to a slight frown.

"Penn! I told you! Frowning is soooo not a good look on you!" Kay told me as we began to walk around towards the mall.

We were passing some bushes when I suddenly heard one move as if something was hiding. I whipped around and saw a flash of purple duck behind the bushes.

"Who's there?" I demanded.

Kayla and Josh looked back at me.

"You ok?" Josh asked me, concern laced in his voice.

Some bodyguard he is. I was the one who spotted trouble!

"Well I thought I saw-" I began.

"Nuh-uh-uh! Nope! We are here to shop at the mall and you are going to do it!" Kayla grabbed me and dragged me away frpm the suspicious bushes.

"Hey!" I protested.

"Come on, Josh!" she grabbed him by his arm and dragged him with me.

"Hey!" he complained but I saw the blush that hit his cheeks when Kayla grabbed his arms.

I smirked. Blackmail material. Mwahahaha!

"Wohooo! Look at this top! I wonder if it'll look good on me!" Kayla dragged us into another store and I could feel my legs about to fall off.

"Come on," she said cheerfully and somehow still so full of energy.

"Ugh," Josh groaned and for once, I had to agree with him.

Then, I felt hot breath by my ear, "Can you make her stop?" Josh whispered.

My face flushed a bit and I smirked, "If you stop following me around?"

Josh set his jaw and shook his head. He straightened his back and marched over to Kayla.

"Yeah! I think this shirt would look great on you," he said cheerfully, wincing at his own words.

I narrowed my eyes. He just set up a game that he was soooo going to lose at. Even Talon could- I grimaced. Ugh, Talon. Even his stupid name still sent butterflies whirling around in my stomach. They were trying to create a butternado. Get it? Cause it butterflies whirling around in my stomach. I mentally groaned. Great now I was making stupid puns. I shook my head trying to get him out of my thoughts. I grabbed the nearest thing I could find, which happened to be a shirt with little pink anime kittens and red hearts against a ghastly mustardy yellow background.

I thrust it out to Josh, "You're right Kayla would look great in that shirt! And I think you would look great on this one! How about you try it on?"

Josh's face visibly paled at the horribly coloured shirt but then gave me slight smile.

He grabbed a blue dress and flung it towards me," And I think you should try this!"

I almost hissed at it. It was a dress. The most hated thing ever. I could not stamd dresses they did not allow me to move like at all.

Kayla nodded and clapped her hands, "OMG YASSS! That would look totes amaze on you! Not sure about that shirt for you though, Josh..... But Penny=Yes!"

I stared wide-eyed at Kayla, "Um can't I just wear a shirt and pants?"

"Nope, nope! You and him are wearing it! Now go you lovebirds!" she shoved us towards the changing rooms.

I stumbled and landed on my hands and knees.

Josh held out a hand for me and smirked, "Lovebirds?"

I rolled my eyes, getting up, "You know how Kayla is."

He nodded, "Only knew her for 3 hours but yes, I know."

I realised that he was still holding unto my hand, "You can let go of my hand now."

He turned red and dropped it, "Uh-uh sorry."

I giggled then shrugged, "It's cool."

Suddenly, I heard what sounded like a growl. I whipped around, just in time to see the same flash of purple duck into a clothing rack. What the heck?

I turned to Josh, "You did see that right? Or at least hear that?"

He stood still, still beet red staring at his hand.

"Hello? Earth to Josh?" I said, waving a hand in front of his face.

"Huh?" his head jerked up towards me.

"Ugh. If you want a job done right it looks like you just have to do it yourself," I said and went to find out what the heck was that purple flash.
