A young carer looks after a member of their immediate family, such as:
-your mum
-your dad
-an older sibling
-a younger sibling.
However, when looking after these people, they must be registered as disabled. It can be a mental disability or physical. for example:
Mental disabilities:
-depression
-bipolar
-anxiety
-schizophrenia
-PTSD
physical disabilities:
-spina bifida
-Cerebral palsy
-stroke
-emphysema
- Muscular dystrophies (the muscles slowly get weaker)

If somebody has a cold and you are making them tea, it doesn't count. The illness has to be a long running condition.
Substance abuse:
If a family member suffers with a substance abuse, such as a drug addiction, you can also be counted as caring for them.
