Shawn

I laid next to her, wrapping my arms around her and kissing her forehead, before falling into a deep sleep.

The sun shone brightly through my window and hit my face and I rolled over, realising Emily was no longer next to me.
I squinted, not wanting to really wake up yet, looking for her. With no luck, I hesitantly sat up and searched the room once more. I noticed the bedroom door opened, so I assumed she went downstairs.
I stood up and walked out of our bedroom and continued to look for her.
"Em?" I called, I walked into the living room and saw her on the couch, playing on her phone. "Morning babe-" I started, but was stopped once I realized she had my phone in her hands. She turned to me, an angry expression on her face.
"Who is Y/N? You're suppose to 'hang out' today?" She asked angrily, standing up and moving towards me.
"She's my friend! Why are you invading my privacy?" I asked, frustrated she would go through my personal things because of some petty jealousy. She shoved the phone in my face with the messages shared between Y/N and I on the screen.
"Just friends?! Why would she say 'Coming over later, ready for you'? And I went through it because I had every right to!" She yelled back at me, I sighed and took my phone from her.
"We are just friends, I promise you. She said that as a joke, but even though, you had no right to go through my phone Emily" I said, still annoyed but beginning to understand why she was worried. She sighed and nodded,
"I know, I'm sorry Shawny." She said, wrapping her arms around me. I hugged her back, "But I can't live with the thought of you two still being friends. So, it's her or me." She said, I pulled away to see if she was joking, but she was completely straight faced. I raised my eyebrow and chuckled,
"You're joking, right?" I asked, she shook her head and crossed her arms.
"No Shawn, it's me or her." She said before going upstairs as I stood there, struck. How dare she make me choose between her or my best friend?
Y/N was always there for me, she was wonderful. Not to mention, I was in love with her for the longest time, until I finally came to realize she would never feel the same way. We were friends and that's how we would stay. But that doesn't mean I don't love her, and those feelings still stuck, even though I would never admit them.
Of course I loved Emily, but to give up Y/N? That's crazy, but maybe Y/N would understand.
I sighed and laid my head in my hands, thoughts spinning in my head.
I finally walked upstairs and began to get dressed when Emily interrupted.
"You decide who it's gonna be yet?" She asked, running her hand down my bare chest. I sighed and smiled at her,
"Yes, it's going to be you, Em" I said, she smiled brightly and kissed my lips. A weak smile laid on my lips and I continued to get ready. "I'm just going to talk to her today and tell her that we can't be friends anymore" I said, those words struck something in me. I could feel myself breaking apart from one of the best parts of my life.
"Okay, baby. I'll see you around 3 then?" She asked, laying back in bed.
"What? Oh, ummm... yeah. I guess so." I said, not paying attention to her and thinking how I was possibly going to tell Y/N this. How could I explain this? Just "Oh sorry we can't hang out anymore, my girlfriend said so". I shook my head, trying to rid it of the stupid explanations.
I said goodbye to Emily, kissing her before grabbing my keys and making my way out the door.
I called Y/N in the car over Bluetooth to warn her that I was on my way. She picked up after the second ring.
"Hey Shawn, what's up?" She asked quickly, sounding busy. I bit my lip and my muscles tightened. I'm going to miss her voice.
"Y/N, I'll be there soon, okay?" I said, she giggled and I smiled to myself. I also couldn't help but wonder what she was laughing at.
"Okay, sounds good!" She said happily, this was killing me.
"Okay, I'll see you so-" I was cut off by her yelling,
"No, oh my gosh! That's bad!" She yelled, I jumped in my seat and she apologized. "Sorry, things are crazy here. Are you okay? You sound like something is bothering you." She said, my throat felt dry.
"No, I'm fine. See you soon." I muttered quickly, I heard her sigh.
"See you soon" She said, I knew she didn't believe me. She knew everything about me.
Not even Emily knew that much. When something was wrong, she'd just blow it off and talk about her own problems, but Y/N listened.
Tears started to build up in my eyes and I already was starting to regret my decision. I blinked them away best I could, but a tear slipped down my cheek. I wiped it away quickly, trying to stay strong for this.
I didn't even have to think as I turned down her streets, approaching her house.
Every time something great happened or if life got too hard to handle on my own, she was there. I'd go to her house and she'd make me feel better no matter what.
I pulled up in front of her house and I felt my heart drop. This is too much.
I got out of my car and walked up to the door, knocking lightly. A moment later, Y/N came to the door with a squirming puppy in her arms.
"Hey Shawn! This one just destroyed my shoes and I didn't want to leave him alone" She laughed, I smiled and he barked at me. She giggled and put him down, allowing him to run around the house. "Come in!" She ushered and I stepped in, wiping my feet.
"Y/N, can we please talk?" I asked, She looked over at me concerned, noticing the look on my face. She nodded slowly, the perfect smile falling from her face and being replaced by a small sympathic one.
I followed her into her living room and sat on her couch and she settled next to me while the puppy ran around, playing with a little rope toy.
"Is something wrong, Shawn?" She asked, I placed my hand on her knee and she looked down at it.
I don't know if I can do this.
"Yeah, I-" I started, but I got choked up. I couldn't say it. I just didn't want to leave her.
"Shawn, it's okay" She assured me, lifting my chin up so I was looking into her eyes. Her gorgeous E/C eyes.
"It's not, Y/N. Emily, s-she told me to pick between you and her. I-I don't want to leave you, but-" I started, but she cut me off.
"But you have to" She said, the smile falling from her face. I shook my head and hugged her tightly. She carefully wrapped her arms around me as I cried into her shoulder.
"I don't want to lose you, Y/N" I said, she pulled away from me and forced me to look into her eyes, and I found myself getting lost in them.
"Shawn, no matter what you do... you can never lose me" She said, I saw her fighting back the tears in her eyes. "I love you, Shawn. You're my best friend. I get it, you love her." She explained, I nodded and she pulled away.
I love you so much, but you'll never love me. I need someone to love, Y/N.
"I hope you can understand" Was all I was able to get out. I wanted to tell her the truth. She turned to me and kissed my cheek.
"It'll be okay, Shawn. And always know..." She started, taking my hand and holding it in her's. "That'll I will always be here if you need me." She finished and I kissed her forehead and stood up.
This would be the last time I would walk out of this house.
She walked me to the door and shut it behind her. We stood in silence for a few moments, until she broke it.
"I bet that little devil is chewing up another pair of my shoes..." She said, trying to lighten the mood. I chuckled and she smiled at me.
"So, this is it?" I asked, she nodded slowly, her eyes seeming to lose their sparkle. "I love you, Y/N. I promise I will never forget you." I said, she let her eyes meet mine as I tear rolled down her cheek.
"I love you too, Shawn. Good luck with Emily. You deserve the best." She said, I hugged her one last time before walking back to my car.
She stood outside, waiting for me to drive off and I looked over just as I was about to pull away. I smiled and she returned it before she disappeared behind her front door.
"No, because I don't deserve you" I said to myself, knowing I was leaving my life behind.
