Fallen

Chapter 4

Fallen was extremely grateful they got off of the territory without an issue. All Laken did was simply tell the "Guardians of the Territory",—as Laken put it—that they could switch their shifts so other guardians could fill their places.

They got off of the territory unnoticed as they made their way to a nearby human club,Throb.

"So how do I do this?" Fallen yelled in Laken's ear over the music as they entered. Before Laken answered,Fallen took a moment to gaze around the club.

Couples were making out in the booths that lined the walls on the left side of the club, there were flashing strobe lights that left the club in complete darkness for a minute before lighting up again and repeating, loud, booming music, grinding—lots and lots of grinding.

Fallen got nervous and wiped her sweaty palms on her jeans. Come on,Fallen! You're a grown woman! Are you really scared of flirting at this age?

Laken simply wrapped an arm around her waist and led her towards the bar.

Nervous, she took a seat on the bar stool next to him as he ordered drinks.

"First step of luring your prey,"Laken started, sliding the Margarita over to her,"Is learning how to catch their eye."

Fallen nodded and looked down, embarassingly,at the drink inside of the, fairly big, glass.

The drink itself, was a light green color. The rim of the drink was lined with salt, the only space uncovered, preoccupied by a green slice of lemon.

How do I drink this? She thought.God,this is embarassing.

"So try flirting from afar,"Laken continued,"Stare at someone who interests you or someone who is already interested. Wink, motion them over sexily with your hand,go to them. Anyway to get close to them."

She nodded once again and looked around the crowded room. There was a man in the corner who had already seemed to take an interest in her. His arms were folded over his chest as he leaned against the wall. He had a buzzcut, and a strange, criminal look to him.

When he noticed she was staring back,he smirked and sent a flirty wink towards her before she turned back around,a wary feeling bubbling up in her stomach.

"I think I've already found someone,"Fallen said discreetly to Laken. She motioned over to the suspicious guy in the corner."But I don't think I can do it. I can't take the guilt."

Laken let out a husky chuckle as he sipped his drink. He had been laughing at two things; One,the fact she couldn't read body language or predict backrounds, two, the fact she hadn't touched her drink because she didn't know how to drink it.

"I thought you'd say that,"Laken said as he set his drink down, looking towards her."Here's a way not to feel guilty. I call it 'predictions based on personality by physical analyzation'. First off,is reading your person. Let's take Mr.Buzzcut, over here for example. Look at his demeanor. He's leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, confidently and independently. He obviously holds some sort of power or leadership. He's not trying to look threatening,he is. Not only that, but look at the way everyone kinds of keeps away of him. Purposefully. That shows that he's known here, feared also." Laken leans on the bar counter as he explains his methods of not-guiltily hunting. He analyzes all of his facts and details in his mind and comes to a questionable, yet impressive and intelligent, conclusion.
