I was ten years old at the time, in a dreery England. My parents were one of the richest people in the town and I was their only daughter among three brothers. My father worked for the queen but I could never remember what he did exactly. Anyway, my mother and father were always telling me that I needed to be more lady like and to grow up. I was always with my brothers fooling around like one of them. My parents hated it. I was supposed to be their posh, proper little girl who wore dresses and drank tea. What they got was a girl that hangs around boys, acts like a boy, and hates dresses to the core.
One day I was wrestling with my older brother, Tom, when my mother walked in on us. She screeched as high pitched as that woman could possibly go and my father came running in. His face got as red as a tomato and both of my parents started to lecture me on how to be a lady and what would society would think of me and blah blah blah. That was the last straw for me. I ran up to my room, slammed the door shut, threw open my window and climbed down the tree that was at the back of my house. It was raining hard and I was now wondering the streets of England.
After running for a long time, I made it the the park. Sitting under a large tree I wrapped my arms up against my knees. It was dark and my ten year old mind couldn't take much more of the stress, I started to cry. My shoulders were heaving when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Girl, why are you crying?"
I look up to see two boys around my age staring at me, one with black hair and big brown eyes that seemed concerned, another with blond hair and lively blue eyes that seemed to be laughing at me.
"I wasn't crying, I was simply letting the rain fall down from my face." I replied indignantly.
"Sure sure" said the black haired one, "And I was eating grass."
I smiled and hiccuped.
"So why were you crying," the blond one asked?
"My parents told me to grow and and to be more lady like, so I ran away." I told them.
"We ran away from our parents too. Maybe you could join us?" the sound of bells jingled next to my ear. I turned to see a fairy about the size of my forearm was flitting above my head.
"Peter, Hale, I have only so much powder and Neverland might not take you all. If it doesn't accept you then you'll die. I can't lose another friend." The fairy said, her voice cracking at the end.
"Oh Tink, I think Neverland will be happy to have all of us. Can't we take her with us, please." The blond one asked?
The fairy, Tink, jingled and sighed. "Fine, Peter, but if any one of you dies, I'm blaming you."
"Wait, whats Neverland?" I asked, standing up.
"Neverland," said Tink, "is a place for kids that don't want to grow up and have been abandoned. You get to the age of 16 and will never grow up past that. It is the home of fairies, mermaids, and dreams-"
"And we want you to come with us," said the dark haired boy, Hale, with a large smile. Peter smiled too.
"Okay, but how do we get there?" Tink threw some golden dust over our heads.
"Just think happy thoughts and stick with me." she said.
I thought about living forever and being with a group of people that loved me. I opened my eyes and I gasped. I was in the air! Peter and Hale we laughing and swooping above me.
"COME ON YOU THREE LETS GET GOING!" Tink yelled at us. We all flew after her in a disorganized fashion. Hale came to my side, floating gracefully.
"My name's Hale."
"Delly" He just smiled and kept close to my side. Tink flitted around.
"Okay so this is what we're going to do, there's a star that we fly towards that will bring us to Neverland, I need you all to hold on to eachother and don't let go. Peter hold on to my ankle and Delly take his hand, Hale grab on to Delly. What ever you do, DO NOT LET GO" Tink started glowing brighter and flying faster. I wasn't scared at all while holding Peter and Hale's hands. I saw an island coming up in the distance and wondered how it was possible. But then I realized, I didn't care, I was away from my parents and I was with people that would become my best friends.
Neverland was going to be great, I thought to myself smiling.
Tink landed on the island in a clearing surrounded by large trees that, if hollowed out, could fit people inside. At the odd thought Tink pulled on a piece of vine and the bark broke open showing a deep hole. Peter was the first one to step inside, he seemed to fall like a slide. I was so surprised that I bumped into Hale and we both went tumbling down the tube together, laughing our heads off.
Tink showed us how to collect food on the island and water throught the broken ended roots sticking through our roof. That night Peter, Hale and I fell asleep together on the large bed of warm moss and pillows.
My first night of many in Neverland.
