"Excuse me?" Gia says half scared half angry.
"There is an 85% chance that if Haylee so much as turns her head the wrong way, she could suffer from either serious brain damage or a lifetime of non stop migraines." The doctor says again.
I sit there in the chair frozen. So basically, I could die. Fantastic.
"Can you fix it?" Gia asks.
"There is a procedure, although its very dangerous." He explains.
"How dangerous?"
"50% chance of living. 40% chance of living without injures. And you obviously know the last ten percent." He says and clears his throat.
Gia looks at me and sighs. "What's it going to be kiddo?"
I look between the doctor and Gia. Do I risk it? I might not live to see Christmas this Saturday. To hell with it. You could die tomorrow. I nod. "I'll do it."
Doctor McHaran nods and smiles. "How about we set up the appointment for next Saturday?"
Gia nods and starts making arrangements. She hands me the keys and tells me to go wait in the car. I clutch the keys in my hand tightly as I walk out of the office. Wes is in the waiting room since he insisted on coming with Gia and I.
He looks up at me and stands up, wiping his hands on his jeans. "What's the verdict?"
"I have permanent brain damage." I say in a small voice.
"What?"
I nod slowly. "If I even turn in my sleep somehow, I could get serious brain damage and well, die."
Wes runs his hands over his face and through his hair. "This is all !my fault." He mutters.
"Wes no its not." I say touching his arm.
"Yes it is Haylee!" He says more persistent this time. "I should've listen to you when I was driving."
"Wes I'll be fine. I'm getting a surgery next Saturday for it." I say with a soft smile.
"What's the risk?" He asks.
I suck in a breath. "That's not important."
"Yes it is." He says.
I sigh. "50% chance of living. 40% chance of living without injures. The last ten percent is me dying."
"Kitten..."
"Wes I'll be fine. Trust me on this."
He sighs but nods before pulling me into a hug. "I don't want you leaving me kitten."
"We haven't even gone on that date yet." I sigh with a smile.
He pulls back. "Come on."
"Where are we going?" I ask.
"I owe you a date."
"Let me give the keys back to your mom." I say.
I run back and give the keys to Gia and tell Her Wes and I are going out. She said thank you for walking. I'm honestly traumatized by cars now. I can look at one without wanting to freak out and run away.
"Where are we going?" I ask once were outside the hospital. The cold wind hits my face and I pull my hoodie around me tighter and pull the hood up that fits loosely around my head.
"Its a surprise." He says.
I roll my eyes. "I hate surprises."
"Too bad."
