I was falling. The wind ripped around me and my arms flailed desperately, reaching for anything I could grab to stop my fall. The canyon walls raced past my eyes in a blur. I was hurtling toward the bottom faster and faster, gaining speed, but I was not going to hit the bottom,I told myself. I can stop this. I concentrated hard, felt the wind around me slow gradually until I was no longer falling, but drifting gently downward. Suddenly there was a change in the air. I felt as if all the oxygen were being sucked out from the area around me. And I was falling again. Right before I hit the ground I saw a face watching my descent, masked in black , but somehow I felt that it was smiling...
I woke up in a cold sweat. The blankets were twisted around my legs and my heart was beating wildly. The alarm clock on my windowsill was beeping noisily and I turned it off with a groan. The numbers read 5:00 in the morning. After two weeks of waking up at 5 in the morning for training you'd think I'd have gotten used to it. But it's only gotten harder.
My stunt with the earth only got me so far. Apparently when I fell from the sky during the exam the earth opened up and swallowed me. They had to dig me out. At first they thought I was dead, but surprise! I wasn't. For the first couple days I got some mad respect. Earth is the hardest element to manipulate.
I walked around with my head held high and everyone left me alone... That is, until they realized I have literally no talent. Like when I nearly drowned during a water exercise, or when I nearly burned down the gym while attempting to make a ball of  fire sit in my hand without burning me. I'm lucky I didn't need a new hand after that one. I'm also lucky they didn't throw me out of school.
I actually wish they would. It would be less torturous than staying here and being laughed at. Unfortunately, the only way to get out is to break a law and go to jail... Or death. If you die, then by definition you are no longer at the school, but I'd rather not take that route.
So instead I'm trying to stay under the radar. Uninteresting. Unnoticed. Invisible. And it's working. But it won't for any longer if I'm late for class. I jump off the bed and get ready for training.
