I stood there in shock, my mouth wide open. Why would he say that? My mother had told me my father would kill a pirate on sight for his hate of them. It'd go against everything she said about my father's hatred for any pirate especially if he was a pirate king. He couldn't be. He had to be dead, my mother said that he was taken and I believed her. Besides, after eighteen years he'd b dead if he was taken. Right?
The captain watched me with a slight pleasure in my reaction. He spoke to the man beside me named Mark but I didn't hear what he said. I felt a hand wrap around my arm pulling and I jerked it away meeting the captain's eyes. "If it was true, about my father, how would you know where I lived or even looked like?" I said looking at him with curiosity. He looked thoughtful.
"Me and yer father used to be on the same ship til he betrayed me. He used to make us dock at a port not to far from your town. When we would dock he would leave. One day I decided to follow 'im to where he went. The village wasn't much that I followed him to. Poor and none too exciting fer me. He went to a lil house outside the village. He would hide a distance from it, watchin' it. When a woman came out he forced himself not to move to go to 'er. Then a lil girl with dark hair came on out and he would smile.
I watched him do this many a time. One day when he caught me following him I asked 'im why he went there. He only said it's my love and daughter. After a year he betrayed me and disappeared. I decided to keep up on yah growin'. When word got out that yer father wanted yah every pirate tried to look fer yah, but only I knew where. So there ya go. Satisfied?"
I nodded meekly and he waved his hand dismissively, "Mark, take 'er now. She's boring me and she starts working tomorrow." He turned back to his crew and snatched a bottle and took a swig. I felt a soft hand on my arm and looked up into Mark's eyes. "Come on." he said softly and tugged me back the way I came and I followed. He led me back down the stairs and I saw the man still laying there unconcious. I must've hit him prett hard. Mark didn't even acknowledge him. He looked at me sideways, "You do that?" I nodded sheepishly and a smile quirked at the corners of his mouth.
He walked behind the stairs. Hammocks swayed from the ceiling and a few doors lined the walls. Mark went to the back wall where there was hardly and light. I saw him kneel down and could only see slight movements in the darkness. A sound of locks being opened and a creaking of something opening reached my ears. Mark lifted up a trapdoor and light shone up into his face. His back was still to me and he motioned for me to follow as he stepped down on the ladder and descended and I followed.
We ended up in a type of hallway. Straight ahead was a room without a door that appeared to be a kitchen. To the right was a door without a handle. The left wall curved outwards. Mark walked to the door without a handle and pushed it open. Light filtered into the hall and we walked into it. It was a plain little room with a floor bed that seemed nice in the far left corner with a nighttable on the side with a kerosene lamp shning brightly. A few other lamps lined the walls. The right wall curved out like the wall in the hall did. A small cot was against the curving wall, but this one was in a lot better shape than the one I had been on. On the back wall was another smaller door with a hole where the handle should be.
Mark stepped to the center of the room and spread his arms wide "Welcome to my humble abode. This is where you'll be staying for now." He turned back to me and my breath caught. He was so handsome. He had shaggy auburn length hair and caramel eyes. He had a slight stubble along his strong jaw. He had defined features with the only flaw being his nose that seemed to be broken a few too many times and not have healed right. I was wrong it made him look even more perfect. I just stared with my mouth slightly open. He looked at me like I was crazy. "Do you ususally stare at people like that or do you just find me extremely attractive?" He started to get an arrogant look on his face. I intentionally avoided his gaze.
