The shadows followed me, through the white lands, through the large grand gates and finally to him. The man sat upon a thrown, smaller than the Lord's yet still grand. Vines choked the metal poles which twisted and turned together to form it. The man cast a brilliant, yet smug grin to me. His white, silvery hair falling just short of his broad shoulders, and his white suit looking crisp and clean, hugging him in just the right way all over, giving him a young, but superior look. He twirled his fingers lazily in the air causing a soft wind to arouse, seizing the horrid shadows, carrying them away from me, who allowed dismay to show on my face.
"My dear, have you no clue as to what shall happen to you?" His smooth, deep voice spoke, echoing in the area which seemed to have no end to its perimeter.
"No...I do not." I said, my white skin bared bruises and cuts, and deep blue eyes that held a certain lost, emptiness about them said, my voice showing every bit of pain I felt in that moment.
The man rose from his glorious throne, not losing one bit of his superior look as he sauntered towards me. His body moved in graceful strides, and his haunting purple eyes never left me. Once close enough, he reached one long slender arm to me, fingers extended, and brushed my bruised face, his white gloves collecting dirt and blood in the process.
"All that you have been through, all that you have fought for..."he trailed off for a moment, letting his fingers slide across my cheek. "All...for nothing." His hand dropped with his words and a smirk crossed his pale face as he saw the hope drain from my face.
"Tell me darling, what is your name?" He said softly as he began to walk around me in slow circles, examining me.
"My name..."I thought for a moment. Should I tell this fallen angel my name? Was it going to get me into more trouble than I was already in? I wasn't sure, but seeing I was most likely to die already I spoke my name anyway. With a slight step to the side, I brushed away my long, wavy black hair out of my face and said "My name is Maria. Maria Fairfellow." I said, attempting to keep the control in my voice but failing.
The angel grinned, a devious grin that made my skin crawl. "Ah...Maria. Just as I thought." He returned to the front of me, hands behind his back, and a small grin peeking at the corner of his mouth. "Well, Maria, if you hadn't known this already, I am Ash, the fallen angel known for bringing fear into the souls of the impure. And as for you," he broke off in a small chuckle. "Hm.. nothing much can be done for you." He walked over to a desk set in the far corner that I wasn't exactly sure was there before. He pulled open a drawer and scanned through what appeared to be files. With a noise of success he pulled out a set of files and walked to me.
"These are the files of your life so far," he flipped through the pages. "And it looks to me like you haven't lead much of one either." Amusement was set in his tone as he cleared his throat and read out loud. "Maria Fairfellow, born in London, England, daughter of Thomas and Elaine Fairfellow, parlor maid to the house of the Montclairs. Led a simple life up until age 15 where she decided to run away after finding that she was "different" from the rest." He stopped reading for a moment, squinting his eyes at the writing on the page, almost as if to clarify a typo. He looked up to me, curiosity blinking in his eyes. "It says here that you are half demon half human. Is that correct?" He asked.
I looked down, "I am not sure." I sat silent, waiting for Ash to continue reading, but looked up to find the angel staring at me.
"Curious... you are part demon and yet I never detected any impurity in your veins. My dear, you are indeed special." He closed the file and returned his hand to his side. Without further warning he came very close to me then, his breath caressed my face as he looked down at me. He was taller than me by a long shot.
