One Last Breath
Chapter 1
“Okay! Okay! Gosh, Mom. You act like I’m 12. I’m 18! I’ll call you as soon as we land. I have to go now, or else I’ll be late. I love you! See in a week!” Mili called to her mom as she sped away in her Cadillac Escalade.
“Love you, Wee Wee!” Her mom called her nickname, as she swept away a tear that had drizzled it’s way to her chin.
Mili drove the half hour to pick her best friend, Sherry. They were now on their way to the airport, just outside of Spokane. Mili had this trip planned since her 8th grade year. They’ve always wanted to escape their country for a while, and visit someplace new, someplace exciting. England had been the perfect place for the girls. Mili always pleaded to everyone she met, “Don’t you just think British accents are the hottest and most attractive thing, ever?” Most people just sighed, but Sherry always agreed.
“I’m going to smash that nasty pervert’s face into a cement wall if he doesn’t stop checking us out.” Mili growled as they entered the airport.
“Oh my gosh, I know! Put him out of his misery, he looks lonely. Probably because of that face of his. That’s something only a mother could love.” Sherry shot back.
They were just normal teenage girls. Sherry was a little short for an 18 year old, with a slender, fit body. She had flowing brown hair, with a bit of blonde underneath. Her light, fluffy brown eyes were always welcoming. She had a uniqueness to her that Mili usually found herself to envy. Mili was just an average girl. She was about to turn 18, in only half a week. Her hair was long, golden locks, it nicely accented her silverish blue eyes. There was nothing special about her body, it stood tall with a slender, but not skinny, figure.
As they walked towards the boarding gate, two boys raced towards them. There girls were startled, as the boys didn’t seem to slow down as they drew closer. BOOM.
“OUCH!!!!!” Mili yelled as her body hit the floor.
“YOU ASSHOLES!” Sherry screamed as she helped her friend up.
The two boys wore hoodies, covering there face with sunglasses. A small group of girls ran behind them screaming, “OH MY GOD!! ONE DIRECTION! LOUIS TOMLINSON! ZAYN MALIK! OH MY GOD!!!”
Mili and Sherry looked at each other confused, when Mili spoke up. “What the hell is One Direction?”
Sherry stuttered in response, “Wha.. What. The. Fu..” Mili was quick to shove her hand in place of Sherry’s mouth before she could finish.
“Sherry,” she giggled. “Not here. There’s kids everywhere.”
“I’m sorry, but seriously…” Sherry continued as they were passing through the gate to board the plane. The two hooded boys smashed them into the wall as they flew by, again. Were they boarding same plane? Sherry started to swear, Mili again pushed her hand to cover her friend’s mouth. She looked at Sherry, stern.
“Oh, look who’s flying with us. They better pray to God that they don’t seat near us.” Sherry mumbled.
“I hope they sit in front of us, so I can kick the shit out of their seats.” Mili continued.
The two girls took their seats in the coach section. Each scanned the seats, letting their eyes to wonder, searching for the two evil boys. Mili found Sherry’s face, her eyes still pondered, “Must have sat in First Class,” she gravely stated.
After everyone had taken their sit, a flight attendant stood before everyone as she announced the normal lecture about safety and such. The girls looked at each other smirking, as they slipped their headphones in. They didn’t care to hear about the rules, and what to do in case of a plane crash. Mili thought to herself, ‘I have more of a chance getting struck by lightening than getting in a plane crash, I need to hear this. Nothing’s going to happen.’
Sherry saw the flight attendant walk away, obviously finished with the annoying speech. She felt a slight tap on her shoulder, she turned to her side, looking at the familiar face. “Oh my gosh! Emily! It’s been forever!” Sherry turned around, nudging Mili while she pointed to Emily.
“Oh, hey.” Mili replied. A little shocked. It’s been a year and half since she had last seen Emily. It was now the summer, Mili just graduated only 3 weeks ago. She was extremely amazed to see Emily, especially on this plane.
“Ohh.. Uhh. Hi..” Emily managed to squeeze out, uneasily.
“I’m going to turn away now, before anything else happens.” Mili quivered at the thought of what she really wanted to say to the girl.
Sherry seemed a little surprised, but tried to ease Emily by stating, “She’s a little tired, I don’t know what’s gotten into her. Sorry about that.”
“Oh, no. It’s fine really.. So how have you.. you guys.. been?”
Emily and Sherry continued talking, while Mili put her headphones in. She seemed a bit drowzy, but not enough to fall asleep. Turning down her I-pod, she eavesdropped on the other girls’ conversation. ‘I am SO not going to put up with this for 15 hours. Oh my gosh..’ She thought to herself. Continuing her thoughts, her eyes began to droop.
Mili woke up, what felt like some 3 hours later. Her vision was blurred and her hearing was almost that of a deaf person. She rubbed her eyes, as she thought she was in a dream. People were in full panic. She saw as people opening their mouths, letting out vicious screams. Still not able to hear anything, she turned towards Sherry. Sherry had her head pulled close to her lap, putting her hand on the back of Mili’s head. People were scurrying around, trying to escape. But to wear? Mili felt a jerk as her hearing abruptly returned. Sherry was screaming. Mili leaned down, as she was looking at her friend. What the hell was going on?
“SHIT! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?! WHAT’S GOING ON!? SHERRY!!!!”
“SHUT UP!!” Sherry screamed as tears were shooting from her eyes.
Everyone was screaming. Mili shifted her gaze to Emily. The girl was throwing her hands up, waving them around like she was looking for something to grasp. Crazy hoe, Mili thought. Turning to the window, she peered out. Nothing but the ocean was in view. It went on forever. Mili cringed as they were only 100 feet from the water. Looking at Sherry as she whispered, “Hold on tight, I love you.” She thought about a saying something cheesy, but realized this really may be their last seconds. Last moments. Of life. Their life.
Mili’s POV
Is this really happening? Am I really going to die? I’m not even 18. I have almost nothing. I just graduated. I haven’t even began to live my life. I have a start, well, had a start. Is my full ride scholarship just going to go to waste? I worked so hard for that. I was going to go the one of the biggest colleges in America. I was going to go to Stanford. What about Sherry? She has a family. A good one. She’s just like me. She hasn’t lived her life either. At least she’s 18. This is all happening so fast. I felt a sharp push as the plane crashed into the deep blue. From there, it went in slow motion. I turned to Sherry, I stared into her eyes, as we both beamed our eyes at each other, taking what might be our last breath. I felt the water creep in terribly fast as the plane filled. It was sinking rapidly, though I was still going though this in slow motion. I’m dying. I know I am.
