Chapter 7
Struggling to get up, Mili barely managed to stammer to her weak legs. She headed towards the shore, her steps were small and sullen. Dragging her feet, tears drizzled from her chin and smashed into the grainy sand. She turned around as she felt a touch to her shoulder. Swatting her hand, she half yelled out, "Go.. away... Sherry! I don't want to.. be around anybody! Leave me alone!"
"But-" Sherry tried to reassure her.
"LEAVE" Mili shouted back. Sherry's never seen her so distraught. She couldn't really make out Mili's emotions. Were they sad? Angry?
Mili stumbled her way to her desired location. She laid on her back, her toes hit by the occasional wave that crashed a little higher on the shore. Her sparkling blue eyes were now a dark shade of indigo. They stared up at the stars, gazing forever. Tears still dripped from her eyes. Her breathing had the random spurt of terminating every so often. It felt like eternity, it felt like her life was passed and she was just a soul, watching as nothing happened. Staring at the constellations, she realized how beautiful life was. To her, each start represented something, someone, someone who has gone or someone to come. Not of one who was alive. The stars were so bright, no clouds to blanket them. They seemed so far away, but still shone like the sun. Her gaze fell to a blank spot in the dark sky, a light flickered. It danced there for a while. Eventually he became still, sparkling the brightest of all. Thoughts of Emily flew back into her mind and the sobbing returned. She whimpered into the warm night air. It was Emily's star. She could feel it. She whispered to herself between sobs, "Nobody.. is... Forever Young..." Her eyes struggled to stay closed, but she just couldn't sever her stare away from the shimmering star. Holding her breath, she tried to stop the weeping.
Just after getting her throbbing, bloodshot eyes to close, she heard the sand beside her shuffle. Another pattern of someone's breath continued next to her. She didn't even care to see who it was, she completely ignored there presence. Although, she struggled to calm her crying. She turned her self to her side, back facing the body beside her. A hand rested itself upon her shoulder as a calming voice reassured, "It's going to be okay, I promise." Louis scooted himself closer to her, sitting with his legs cris-crossed. His knees slightly grazing against her thin t-shirt. He felt her body shivering.
"N..no. It.. isn't.. really.." Mili stuttered, the tears returned again.
"Please, Mili, just trust me. It will, I'll make it better. I'll do everything I can." Louis told her, his accent felt somewhat comforting to her.
"I can't.. trust.. again.. It's too much.. work.. too.. hard.." Her voice cracked.
"I know you don't believe me now, but I'll show you. I know I don't know you, I don't know anything about you. But I feel like I NEED to." His tone grew more confused. He felt something, he just didn't know what.
Mili shuffled her position to where she had her knees pulled tight to her chest and her arms snuggled around her knees. She rested her cheek on the surface of her knee, looking glumly at Louis, "It won't work." She sounded as if she was trying to convince herself, rather than Louis.
Louis eased his hand to her shoulder blade as he softly rubbed. He tilted his head to meet her gaze. "Come on, you're freezing. Lets get you by the fire. You need a warm night of sleep." The boy protested. Standing up, he held his hand out, gesturing to help her up. Ignoring his hand, she slowly rose and made her way near the fire.
Mili laid her tired body on top of one of the leaf made beds. She rested on her stomach with her hand tucked beneath her chest and her left leg laying on the right one. Her body was still trembling with shivers. It wasn't even that cold though... Was she in shock? Everything around her was a blur. The others 3 wandered a little down the beach, looking for more leaves to cover her with.
