Chapter 2
Mili was thrown across the plane. She landed with her knees pulled up to her face and her arms tangled behind her. She struggled to get up, finding a place on a seat. She stood with only her head slightly out of the way of the water, somehow there was still a little air. Ducking her head beneath the freezing water, she looked around for any survivors. Excruciating pain filled her back and left leg. Spotting Emily lying on top of Sherry she quickly took one last breath of the air before her attempt. She swam as fast as she could, and took two arms. One of Emily’s and one of Sherry’s. Though she hated Emily so much, she couldn’t let someone she knew die, right in front of her. Mili was always kind.
Mili surveyed the plane, looking for any exit. She couldn’t hold her breath much longer. Finally after what felt like eternity Mili saw a flash of light as the plane turned under the ocean. Risking her own life, she continued her struggle as she barely squirmed her and the two limp bodies through the tiny opening. She felt hopeless as she entered into the vast ocean of nothing. Terrified, she violently kicked her legs, pushing towards the surface. Her arms were dreading the lack of use, they fought to help her body swim upward but was viciously restricted by the two bodies that beamed lifeless. She couldn’t bring herself to let go of them.
Reaching the surface, Mili gasped for air. She was just about to black out before popping her head above the water. Waves were intensively crashing everywhere about her. Her hands still gripped the arms of the two girls. Searching for anything to rest upon, she spotted all kinds of stray plates of metal but couldn’t seem to find anything large enough to hold them. Just before giving up, her eyes stumbled upon a very large piece of the now sunken plane. It was almost the size of a king sized bed. Yet, another struggle began while she tried to prop up one of the girls on the metal. Throwing Sherry over her shoulders, she pushed with all of her might, which she had very few of, and tossed Emily on the metal. Next she pushed Sherry up before attempting to get herself upon it. Lifting her right leg up, she let out an ear wrenching scream, kicking her fight as if her life depended on it. Something was gripping her leg for it’s dear life. At first she thought it was a shark, but it didn’t hurt. Another screamed was thrown into dimming dusk. But this time it wasn’t hers. It was a lower scream.
“Bloody hell!” The voice screeched out. “Let me up!!” Mili had pulled herself up on the bed. The boy followed. Mili was letting out an array of panicked screams.
“OH MY GOD!!! SHERRY!!!” It was out of nowhere, she had almost forgotten about the two bodies that almost laid lifeless. Quickly using her skills, she recalled how to preform CPR. Away she went to Sherry, first. Thrusting her fists into Sherry’s chest, Mili was screaming bloody murder. “WAKE UP!! Don’t do this to me.” Every now and then she would smack Emily’s face. Emily was a trained swimmer, she was good at holding her breath. The only reason she was out was because of the impact. It had tossed her every which way. With the few smacks and a single pound to the chest, she was breathing. The boy tended to her as Mili kept herself crying to Sherry.
Mili was sobbing as she was continuing to whisper, “Sherry, please. Please. Wake up. Please.” Her hands flew at Sherry’s fragile chest. Pounding harder at each take. She blew adamant breaths into Sherry’s mouth. Giving up after what seemed like hours, she rested her head on her best friends chest, tears fell from her eyes like a cascade of waterfalls.
Mili’s ear felt a tickle as Sherry’s chest began to lightly flutter, seconds later it was heaving, begging for oxygen. Salty water spewed from her mouth as she was choking. Mili’s eyes immediately flung up as she let out a scream that filled the damping air, “SHERRY!!!” Sherry was still in shock.
“Mi.. Mil… MILI!” She managed to cough out as she stuttered.
“Hey no, it’s okay. Don’t.. Don’t get up, stay down.”
It was impossible that they could have survived. There was NO way. Mili contemplated jumping in the blue to wake herself from the nightmare. 4? 4. Yes. 4 survivors. The thought crossed each person’s mind as they sat on the large floating plate of metal; How could anybody survive? It was a HUGE plane. It held almost 200 people, first class and coach. The impact should have killed everyone.
Mili looked around to observe the scene. Sherry had fallen asleep, due to shock. Emily was barely clutching to life. Her right arm was gone. It must have gotten smashed off during impact. Sherry looked peaceful when she slept, Mili could tell it wasn’t a bad type of sleep. She was just tired and in extreme shock. Aside from that, Sherry seemed fine.
Mili’s gaze soon fell on the boy. He was slouching while he sat, barely on the metal. Sighs and sobs of pain escaped his lips. His face was burried deep in his hands. It was dark now. She couldn’t really make out what the boy looked like. Although, she could tell he had dark, swoopish hair. His eyes glistened an electric blue as the light from a bright star gleamed upon them. He was now looking at Mili. Trying to figure her out. Mili’s jaw dropped.
“You know what?” she hissed looking at the boy.
“Uhh.. What?” He replied in confusion.
“Screw you! You’re the one of the boys who knocked me down, and shoved me into a wall! You didn’t even have the decency to apologize!”
Even though it was dark, Mili could tell his cheeks grew hot as they turned a cherry red. “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe.. I’m so sorry. I didn’t think.. I .. I just.. Oh my gosh.. How do I say .. I’m sor..”
“JUST SHUT UP!” Mili screeched back. She turned away. Laying beside Sherry, she began to feel drowsy. Was it possible at this time? Just after such an event like this? Her eyes shut, immediately she fell asleep.
