MY STRUGGLE WITH DEPRESSION

Mental Health - From the POV of a 14 year old.

Mental Heath is a real struggle for todays teens, with the pressure of social media influencing our lives more then ever, the older generation don't know whats happening.
Let me explain; Social Media is imprinting the thought that there is a perfect human, for males it's muscular, smart, tall, handsome. For a female its skinny, toned, long hair, dainty facial features and a big ass. With these body standards its harder then ever to love ourselves the way we are, I'm here to tell you my experiences.
At age 10, I started using Instagram, it was amazing at first, but then the body standards would take over. Thats when I first started to think to myself "I don't look the way they look, am I even worth it?" as I started going to high school it all got worse, everyone was stereotyped and put into cliques, it was almost like each clique was given a number, 1 being the populars, and 14 being the quiet kids.
When I was around 13 I became extremely unhappy with myself, thats when I started to starve myself, I wanted to be skinny like all the models you'd see on tv, and that was my only option. Slightly later on I was put into hospital, I had collapsed in school and spend 2 months in the hospital being hand fed. When i got out, i was more unhappy then ever, i started to self harm, i didn't talk to anyone, and slowly, i became 'the weird kid'
The next February when i turned 14, i met a boy, we dated for 6 months, he made me extremely happy, when we broke up we were still friends, until i found out the reason he ended it, it was because he thought it was disgusting how skinny i was, he was the only one who knew everything u had been through and he ends it because of that, since then I've had anxiety and depression, i constantly think everyone is talking about me and that everyone is judging my every move, i cant answer the phone, i cant talk to people i don't know, and all of this started because of social media.
The older generation need to understand what our generation is going through, instead of calling us weak and pathetic, they need to understand life is so much harder then it was for them
