Just The Way It Should Be

The low hum of the funny girl soundtrack played throughout the office of Rachel Berry, the executive director of the Stat Health Emergency Care Clinic in Manhattan, on a cool September evening.

She looked out her window and down at the pavement below her. If there was one thing she missed about Ohio, it was the leaves falling in autumn.

The beautiful array of colors would paint the beautiful streets of boring old Lima and give it color. She supposed that the city didn't need the trees in autumn, though. It was colorful everyday at all times.

She opened the window to let in some fresh air as she looked through a file on her lap. She took a pencil and wrote little notes all over it before lifting her small body from her large chair and heading out into the madness.

The tranquility of her office was extremely different from the waiting room, which was only separated by a thin wall. The clinic was always hectic and extremely loud. Just as Rachel liked it.

When Rachel first started this clinic, it was because she didn't like the old hospital she had worked at. Ms. Sylvester prioritized profit over health, which she was not okay with.

So she rounded up the best people she knew in all different fields and went to Shuester clinics for some funding to run her own office where everyone was welcome to get well again.

She walked through the pediatric center of the clinic to find little kids up to her knees and smiled gently. She looked around at the parents and felt saddened, they would look better if they were actually sick.

Luckily, Brittany S. Pierce was amazing with children. She could just connect with them on this level that Rachel had never seen before. That's why as soon as Rachel started the clinic, she had grabbed Brittany as fast as she could and ran.

She had met Brittany at a fundraiser for St. Jude's children's hospital almost two years ago. She was in charge of the children's activities while all of the adults mingled and dined.

Rachel had found it extremely impressive and noble that she had voluntarily got out of a five course meal to spend time with the children who they were eating for.

Right now, the blonde was hovered over a small boy who must have been at the very oldest four or five. Although she was patching up what seemed to be a nasty injury on his leg, he was giggling as she told him stories about her cat.

"If Lord Tubbington was here, he would make your boo boos feel better super duper quickly. He'd lick the blood away with his magic tongue and you would feel all better!"

Rachel saw a look of relief on the mothers face at her son's smile, little did she know that for the first few weeks on the job she had to store the cat in her office because Britt was not even relatively joking.

Rachel grabbed a lollipop from a small pocket hidden in the folds of her skirt and handed it to him. His face continued to light up as she offered him a huge smile. "After this little guys done I think we're going to close up shop."

Brittany nodded, never taking her eyes off of the child before her as she finished in her work. "Alright sounds good. I'll drop off my reports on the way out."

Rachel nodded and tried to not laugh as she thought of the reports that would be done in crayon sprawled out across her professional desk. "Sounds awesome."

Rachel left with a small kiss on the boys head before moving into the break room to find Quinn and Mercedes eating dinner together and talking about the latest episode of god knows what show that was on last night.
