AUTHORS NOTE:

Hey, guys so I get that the role of "lawyer and social worker" are not really in actual hospitals. I also understand that I do not understand the intricate workings of surgery or law enforcement. So I am sorry if things are not super accurate, but I promise I am trying my best. Anyways, hope you enjoy!

Tina quickly paced back and forth inside her office as she bit her bottom lip gently. This was the day that she had been preparing for. Months of hard work and dedication for this one day. Her nerves were somewhat isolated from the rest of the jitters that were circulating the clinic because it had a different source. As her coworkers ran around the office she tried to not stress about her extremely important meeting that was scheduled only a half hour after opening.

She remembered the look in the little boy's eyes so clearly. It had been her first day on the job, and she was so happy that she was practically skipping through the hallways of her old clinic. Then she heard the cries of a child from down the hall. The piles of paperwork on her desk flooded to her mind but were quickly pushed aside as the curious woman snuck a peek into pediatrics.

The boy was small and pale. His dirty blonde hair fell over some of his eyes as he obviously tried not to cry when his arm was being put into a cast. A playground accident seemed to be the cause. That was until she looked over to see his father staring daggers into the boy. It made her stomach do backflips. No one should ever look at a child that way, let alone their own.

Tina asked some routine questions after the check-up with Brittany but got nothing but fearful eyes from the child and attitude from the father. The boy, or Jackson as she would soon find out, was clearly in an abusive home. This was depressing enough, but it only went downhill as she tried to get him out of it.

Today was Jackson's last follow up appointment. After today his father was no longer required to bring him in for post-ops. Tina worried that no one else in his life would notice the new small cuts and bruises that appeared on his skin whenever he arrived in this office. However, there was nothing she could do unless the child told her about the abuse he was suffering.

One of the biggest reasons she was hitting a wall was Tina's inability to be alone with the child. A pediatrician had to be present, and Tina was pretty sure the father told Jackson that Brittany and he were friends. This made Jackson feel unsafe in his appointments, but there was no other pediatrician they could call in the previous office.

Secondly, even though the child had the right to be alone with the doctors for check-ups and questioning, the father always managed to barge in and interrupt, making any confession basically impossible. Tina's breathing started to become staggered as she gripped to the side of her desk. This child was never going to escape, and it was going to be all her fault.

She felt herself start to spiral before a gentle hand on her wrist snapped her out of it. When her vision finally went back to normal she was able to focus on Artie Abrams with a clipboard on his lap and a concerned look on his face. Her current state definitely was not impressive to her new boss, so she took a deep breath and tried her best at a relaxed smile, "Hello, Mr. Abrams. How can I help you?"

Artie sensed the stress that was piling in his employee, but he decided to ignore it as he looked at the clipboard. "I just wanted to confirm with you that you have an appointment at nine. Does that sound right?"

Tina just offered a quick nod

"Alright... Well just remember that you have the fullest extent of my team at your disposal if you need anything," and with a nice smile and a quick turn, he was out the door.

Tina quickly tapped her shoes against the wooden floors as she thought of his advice. Sometimes the young woman had problems trusting new people, especially with something this important. Something inside her told her that she knew this case the best, so it was solely her responsibility to help this child. The realization that this was stupid and naive was coming a little late, but she quickly made her way to pediatrics and grabbed the attention of Brittany and Sam.

"Hey, guys." Tina attempted a friendly smile but she couldn't even fake happiness at the moment, and she definitely didn't have time for pleasantries. "I was wondering if Brittany could go on general admission and Sam could help me with my appointment today." She could see Brittany go to protest, but she swiftly continued. "I'm sorry, Brittany. I know you've worked so hard on this with me, but there is a wall between you and the child."

Brittany looked genuinely sad for a moment, but she slowly started to nod her head. "You're right," she muttered. "We have to do what's right for Jackson." Tina winced a little at the boys' name and offered her a quick hug and thanks before dragging a confused Sam out of pediatrics and into her office to go over the case. It wasn't long before Sam had a concerned look on his face.

"So one of the biggest obstacles your facing is not being able to separate the father and son? Don't you do restricted appointments?" Tina just nodded as an exasperated sigh left her lips.

"Of course we do, but Marley works the front desk. All the father has to do is shove past a few people to get into the examination room and give him this awful look. He just says he forgot to tell his son that they had to go to grandmas after their appointment, but one look at his father and he completely loses all trust in us."

Sam looked at Tina with a look of pity. He knew what it felt like to get hung up on a patient. He was particularly bad at the beginning of his career. He could see how this was absolutely eating her up inside. He placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder and waited until she locked eyes with him. "We're going to get this son of a bitch, Tina. You have back up now."

Tina just nodded, but still looked discouraged as she heard voices coming from outside her office door. Great: they had officially opened for business. That means she had less than a half hour before the big meeting. Sam sensed her distress and got up from leaning on her desk. "Follow me," he said with a reassuring smile as he made his way towards the entrance of the hospital, right up to Puck who was helping an old woman in a wheelchair into Quinn's room. "Puck, I need your help."

The large man quickly went over to Sam and Tina while fixing his new collared black shirt with bright yellow letters that spelled SECURITY on the back. "Yeah well, what else is new?" He joked a little before seeing the concerned expressions on the professionals' faces. "Yo is everything alright, brother? Do I have to kick some ass."

Tina hushed him as Sam pulled him towards pediatrics and updated him on the situation, explaining to him that he would need to keep the father out of the room at all costs. Puck's joking demeanor and constant smirk soon left his body as his muscles tensed and he nodded his head. "So I got to keep this kid-beating asshole out of your office?"

Tina nodded a little and showed him the picture of the boy that was in the file. He was covered in bruises and his innocent eyes were screaming for help. "I have been trying to get this little boy safe for months, but his father is just too big." Her voice cracked a little as she looked up at her new colleague. "Help me help him."

Puck simply nodded and placed a reassuring pat on her back as he took his post at the front of the hospital, obviously scanning for the new appointment to arrive. Tina's breathing was still unsteady as she looked down at the picture of the boy in her file while Sam hovered over her and did the same before whispering in her ear, "We're gonna save him"
