ASHLEY

I cracked open a tired eye as golden sunlight filled the room, it had taken several moments to adjust to the light as I sat up. Swallowing, I realized the feeling of dryness, it felt like I had swallowed cotton. I grimaced, I couldn't remember any of the recent events from last night.

Alcohol, most likely. I sat, seemingly lost in the white curtains that swayed from the AC under it. I finally got myself together and got out of the wrinkly bed, I needed something to drink, taking care of my hangover was my top priority. I grabbed a water bottle from the counter, dissapointed at it's lightness. Wonderful. The empty bottle seemed to taunt me as I sighed and threw it in the beige colored trashcan. I took a moment to adjust to my surroundings, I obviously wasn't home and I obviously wasn't alone, I was in a hotel, not sure which one, however. The twin bed a few inches away from the one I had woken up in was wrinkled and the green and white pillow was covered in mauve colored lipstick.

What a moron.
I thought, my friend Mia probably forced me to go clubbing with her again, only to get us both wasted. She probably made out with a stranger of a guy and ended up fucking him somewhere else while I collapsed in the hotel room. I won't be surprised if her corpse is found sprawled out behind the back of a club somewhere. I held my head in my hands as my headache insued, I needed something to help this hangover before I was going anywhere. I sauntered over to luggage and dug out a Nirvana t-shirt, dark colored jeans, and worn out Jordan sneakers.

I slipped the poorly pulled together outfit on and tied my blonde hair into a loose ponytail. I stood, staring at my reflection, my gaze fixed on my makeup. I looked like a clown after diving into a pool of water. Lipstick and eyeshadow smudged along my face. I grabbed one of the rags and doused it in water, and rubbed my face aggressively, I was surprised I didn't rub my skin off. I attempted to remove the makeup to the best of my ability, though the light pink colored lipstick still faintly remained visable on my ivory colored skin, along with the eyeshadow. I sat the rag on the counter and hurried off to grab the room key, I dug around the luggage until my fingers ran over the exterior of the tag, I yanked the key out and exited the room in under a few minutes.

I ambled down the dimly lit hallway, it felt like I was in the corridor from The Shining, I fully expected the twins to pop up in front of me right then and there, I snorted at the thought and continued my slow and steady pace down the messy hall. As I passed a room near the elevator, I heard a loud blast of rock music. I sighed, yeah, this was really appropriate at 10 in the damn morning. I reached the elevator and stepped inside, pressing the first floor to reach the small coffee bar near the counter for room reservations.

I had spent 6 months in art school only to continuously get wasted, I hadn't even used my ability that I went to the school for, it felt like a waste, which made me feel all the more stupid. I felt like I hadn't owned up to being a responsible adult yet, which was mainly Mia's fault, she had always forced me to do stupid things since high school, but I had never had the heart to drop her and stop this habit of clubbing and drinking every few weekends. I always planned to, but I would delay it and never got to it.

The loud buzz of the elevator snapped me back to reality as the metal doors slid open. I stepped out into the foyer and made my way to the coffee bar, it wasn't even a bar, actually. More or less a coffee maker with styrofoam cups, along with two plastic bowls of coffee creamer and sugar to the side. But it wasn't like I was staying in this hotel long. The coffee was out, which made me narrow my eyes. I lifted a scoop of coffee beans from the near-empty container and poured them into the hatch. I turned it on, and waited for it to fill. In the meantime I made my way to the seating area, and gazed out of the window. The streets were oddly empty, not a single car or person passed along the street, or the pavement. This striked me as odd, since this part of town was usually busy and bustling with life, even in the mornings. Was there a holiday I was not aware of?

I couldn't think of an explanation. I scanned the lobby, empty aswell. I figured the employee who worked at the counter was most likely asleep. But this wasn't normal. I pondered the possibilities until the coffee beeped, signaling my attention as I rose from the leather couch and walked to it. I poured it into the cup. The smell seemed to relax my mind, and I sat the coffee pot down. I wafted the steam, and took a sip, the contents went down easy and seemed to cure my throat. I gave a sigh of relief and leaned against the wall next to the bar, my headache seemed to be forgotten in the midst of ny relaxation, that is, until a shattering noise rang through the lobby, along with an ear-splitting scream as I jumped, and nearly dropped my coffee. I looked around, there didn't seem to be a sight of harm. I grew paranoid and slowly began to make my way back to the elevator, which was on the other side of the lobby, until the sound of growling interrupted my pace. I froze, and turned to face the source of the sound. I was met with a horrifying sight.

A woman, probably close to my age, stood ahead of me, her blouse and jeans were stained with rose red blood, she wore no shoes. Her skin seemed to be flaking off in places, her sclera was almost red, and the pigment of her eyes seemed to be a pale green, her pupils seemed to be dialated. Her teeth grinded back and forth, and were stained with blood aswell. I dropped my coffee as it smashed to the floor, the cup breaking in the process. I felt paralysed, I couldn't move. My attention was fixed on her as she snarled again, spit and blood spraying onto the floor. Before I knew it, she darted foward, letting out a screech. I screamed in response and finally ran, I didn't look back, in fear it would slow me down, if I got caught, I was definitely screwed. As I reached the elevator, I mashed the buttons aggressively, it seemed like hours as the woman charged foward, the doors opened and I practically dove inside, I hit the floor the room was on in a hurry, before the doors shut the woman had nearly gotten inside.

I sank to the floor of the elevator, my breathing frantic as I felt frozen again, what the hell was that? Obviously not human, and obviously not sane. I swallowed hard at the lump in my throat as the doors opened again, I fully expected the woman to have made her way upstairs and to be waiting for me. And that would be the end. But she wasn't in sight. I bolted toward the room, and I got my key in the door, before two freezing cold hands slammed onto my shoulders. I let out a scream, this was it.

This was how I would die.
