This story is dedicated to my mother, who was named... Celine :)
Miss you, mommy!

The woman on the bed opened her eyes.

Sunlight continued to play over her, tinting her dark hair with golden highlights.

But her eyes were as dark as black holes, where no sunlight could enter.

A slow smile crept over her face.

"Jump, Joe, jump." she whispered.

And giggled.

1 year later...

"Are you sure you are well enough to travel, Carrie?"

Carrie looked at the anxious face of her cousin. The only real friend she ever had.

"Yes, David. I've always wanted to see the world. I always kept stopping myself. I was always too afraid. Not anymore."

David nodded sympathetically. "I'm sure you miss your dad. And Eric. You need to get away from that too."

Carrie gave him a cryptic smile. "Yes, I am heartbroken."

David frowned at the sarcastic tone.

Then Carrie gave him her old grin. "Don't worry David. I will be fine. I have to go now. That's the announcement for my flight."

David smiled back. "OK. Take care. And call me if you need anything."

Carrie gave him a quick hug. "I will. Bye now!"

David looked at his cousin walk away.

There was something different about her after the coma.

On a whim he called out, "Bye, Celine!"

She turned around and waved back.

A cold fist wrapped around his heart.

This was not Carrie.
