Chapter 23

James' POV

She did it. She finally told me she loved me. She admitted that she has feelings for me. For the first time ever, she used words to express how she feels about me. And you can bet that I have been waiting for that forever!

I was heading to the house I purchased for me and Jamie. She will now be in the hospital for 2 more weeks but that just gives me more time to make the house perfect.

I was going to meet the guys who were delivering our furniture. I bought all new tables, couches, chairs and a brand new bed.

I pulled up to the very small, cute blue house. Its a 2 bedroom and 1 bath. It was perfect for me and her and I think she will love it.

I saw the movers getting stuff ready so I got out my car and went and unlocked the door. I sat on the hood of my car and looked around me. Nothing looked familiar. I hate moving so far out but I think we both need a new start.

I exited my thoughts when a call started the come through. I pulled out my phone and looked down.

Ellie.

She has been a huge help these few months so I have been thinking about asking her to move in with me and Jamie. She has been livng with her grandparents but I know the distance will drive those 2 childhood friends crazy!

"Yeah?" I answered.

"James, what are you doing?"

"At the house. The movers are delivering our new stuff. So I had to be there."

"Gotcha. Hey, speaking of that, have you even asked Jamie if she will move in with you?" Ellie asked. She sounded worried.

"Well, um no. She doesnt even know I bought the house." I said slowly.

"James..." Ellie said. Thats all she had to say.

"It will be fine." I said.

The call hung up. Damn service. I looked fown at the 3 house keys I had. This could go great or to shit.

The movers finished amd I was heading back home. I couldn't stop thinking about Jamie. How I wanted to be able to call her mine so much. I drove past a ring shop. I knew what to do.

I pulled into the parking lot and got out. I walked in and was greeted by a friendly old man probably in his late 60's.

"Good afternoon sir. Can I help you find anything?"

"I need a ring that says I want you to be mine and I promise that I will always be yours. And it has to say that for about $400." I said looking in my wallet.

The old man laughed and motioned for me to follow. He brought me to the case  and my eyes connected instantly to the ring in the middle. It was a silver band with an opal flower and one big diamond in the center. The opal was so vibrant, I knew it was perfect!

"That one." I said pointing to it.

"That there is a beauty. And it sill run you $375 after tax."

"Perfect. I want it. Do you have a turquoise box?" I asked looking and the dull black box it was in.

He pulled out a blue velvet box. It was beatiful. I nodded and we started walking to the counter.

I paid for the ring and left, tucking it in my jacket. I had to go see Jamie. But first, lets stop by Ellie's

I drove another 45 minutes all the way to Ellie's. I got out my car and knocked on the door. Her grandma answered.

"Aw James! So nice to see you again. Ellie James is here!" She called.

"Nice to see you again as well." I said back.

Ellie walked to the door and befors saying a word I drug her outside.

"What the fuck James?!" Ellie said in a panic.

I pulled the ring out and opened the box.

"James...its beautiful. But I dont think I can I mean your in love with Jamie." She said laughing.

"Im going to ask her to be my girlfriend." I said with a huge grin.

"That's amazing! I'm so happy for yall!" She said.

"But before I do that. I have to ask you something. I know you and Jamie have been friends since yall were 8. And in that time not once have yall been separated. I don't want to be the one who takes her away from you so Ellie, willyou move in with us?" I said holding out the key.

She jumped and hugged me.

"Of course. Thank you James!" She said taking the key from my hands. 

"You go get your girl and I will pack." She said excitedly.

I nodded, gave her a quick hug and ran to my car. Giving a final wave goodbye, I jumped in and headed for the hospital.

After what seemed like forever even though it was only 30 minutes, I arrived. I parked and headed inside. I waved at all the nurses and doctors and caught the elevator.

I got to Jamie's room. I looked in the window and saw her watching tv. I knocked then walked in.

"James!" She said with a huge grin.

"Hey sweetheart, how you feeling?"

"Tired. They made me do leg work today so I dont go stiff." She said.

"Im sorry love."

"Where have you been? I have missed you!" She said staring at me with excitement.

"Well that's what I want to talk to you about." I said. Her emotions changed from happy to worried.

"I realized that when you get out of here, you are gonna need constant care all day long..." Her expression kept getting more sad.

"And I know your parents aren't home a lot to take care of you. But I know someone who would love to take care of you. All day, everyday for as long as you need. So that's why..." I pulled the ring out my pocket along with a copy of the house key and opened the box.

"Will you move in with me as my girlfriend that way I can spend everyday with you?"

Her eyes got huge and filled with tears.

"Yes!!" She yelled.

I put the ring out her finger and kissed her lips. I handed her the key and she looked it over.

"I bought us a house. That's why I have been gone so long. I have been working to get the perfect house for you and it will be fully ready when you get out. It is an hour and a half away so we will have to transfer your medical stuff but other then that everything works out because I asked Ellie to move in with us so you wouldn't have to leave her." I said.

She hugged me.

"Its perfect. Thank you! But what about Jake and Hailey?"

"Im sure they will come visit." I smiled at her.

"Come here." She said patting the bed with her now ringed hand. I crawled beside her and held her. I have waited so long to call her mine.

And now I can.
