Deeks POV:

When it began to get dark I turned off the highway and into a parking lot of a little diner. "Can you drive after we eat?" I asked Kensi.

"So after 6 hours in a the car the mute finally speaks." chuckles Kensi sarcastically.

"Seriously, this again."

"Yes this again. You need to talk Deeks. I know how much you don't want to be here with me but silence won't help."

I sighed and dropped my hands from the wheel. "I will meet you in there. I need to grab something first."

"Wow! You're impossible!" Kensi replied  angrily.

She got out of the car and slammed the door behind her. When she got into the diner I got out of the car and opened the trunk. I moved Kensi's luggage and grabbed my duffel bag. In a hidden pocket I reached in and grabbed 2 small pictures and an engagement band. Both pictures were worn and creased. I looked at both for a few seconds then put them in my back pocket. I closed up the car and went inside. Kensi was seated at a small booth in the center of the diner and I walked over and sat down. Kensi still looked angry. I put the band on the table and slid it over to her. "What's this for?" Kensi asked puzzled.

"Well its an engagement ring." I said just as our waitress came to our table.

”Oh my gosh are you proposing?" She squealed.

"Um." The comment threw me off guard.

"Oh come on. You have to ask her right. Come and kneel over here." She gestured toward the side of the both by her.

"Can I have everybody's attention! This man would like to ask his girlfriend a question." The whole room got quiet and everyone in the diner had their eyes on me.

'Oh shit,' I thought. After a few seconds of trying to figure out my next move. I decided to play along.

I got out of my booth and got down on my knee and faced Kensi. I tried to think of what to say. I took my mind back to a time when my feelings were simpler and pure. To when I saw Kensi and I saw someone more than just a partmer. I took a moment to gather my thoughts then opened my mouth.

Kensi's POV:

"Oh my gosh are you proposing?" Our waitress squealed. "Um..." Deeks' face got bright red.

I felt bad for him. He was trying to be discrete and I had drawn attention to him on accident.

Well it's his fault for never getting to the point quickly. The ring was probably for our cover story, a couple... again. My thought a were interpreted when Deeks stood up.

He knelt by my side and looked up at me with his baby blues. Those eyes still took my breath away. "My life has never gone the way I wanted." Deeks began.

"I was an ordinary LA cop who became a better one because of you. Because of a wonderful, strong, inspiring partner I became more of the man you always thought I could be. I have found a new purpose in life. I was once a ladies man but that doesn't matter anymore because all I want to be now is your man." My breath hitched.

"I can't believe two people who are so different can work so well together. You, Kensi Marie Blye are the greatest partner I could have ever asked for. I love every part of you. I love that you love food just as much as I do, that we work as one single mind when we are working a case. I even don't mind the mess you leave where ever you go. It's actually sort of adorable. You have been my partner and friend for so many wonderful years. But I don’t want to be just your partner anymore.” Deeks paused and reached for my hand.

He held it for a moment and looked at them. I held my breath. He then looked up at me with his beautiful blue eyes.

“I want to be more than just your partner and I have wanted to be more ever since I met you. When I finally told you what I actually meant to say I know I couldn't go back. But I never regretted a minute because with you by my side I could do anything and be everything. When I thought I lost you in Afghanistan I realized I could not live without you. Because sometimes you don't know how lucky you are to have something until you realize might lose it. You are the person I care about most on this planet. You are my salvation, my other half and my all. I can’t spend another day alone without you there. So would you please do me the honors of being more than my partner and be my wife. You drive me crazy and your communication skills might be worse than mine but I don't care. I know I have only scratched the surface of your tough skin and there are a lot of things you haven't told me but as I said all those years ago, I will settle for a beer for the rest of my life. Fern, will you marry me?”

I was stunned. I felt my heartbeat race. Deeks reached up on the table and grabbed the ring. He held it up to me.

Was he making stuff up or was he being genuine, I couldn't tell. My heart was telling me that was real but my mind wasn't so sure. If he had loved me and never wanted to not be with me then why did he leave me in LA with nothing so much as a letter.

I squeezed his other hand and tried to respond but no voice came out. I looked once more at Deeks and I nodded. I stood up and embraced Deeks. The small diner erupted into cheers.

I stepped back and allowed Deeks to put the ring on my finger. It was simple and elegant white-silver band with a beautiful blue sapphire surrounded by small red rubies.

We embraced once more and I ran my fingers through his short hair like so many times before. It felt so familiar and foreign at the same time. "Nice move." I whispered in his ear.

"You too."

We broke away. Everyone was still watching us. "Oh come on you two love birds...let's see a kiss." Cooed the waitress.

I turned back to Deeks. His jaw clenched and his smile hitched a bit. He opened his mouth to say something when I walked over to him, grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him into a kiss. At the last second he turned his head so I kissed his cheek. Deeks's body was stiff as I  put my other hand on his lower jaw. He hesitantly put his hands on my hips and wrapped them around my back. He pulled away slowly and forced a smile. He grabbed my hand and led me back to the table and we both sat down.

"Let me see the beautiful thing." Said our waitress.

I held my hand out to her and she examined my ring. "Oh my gosh it is beautiful. Does your name start with a w?"

"No why?" I said puzzlers. She let go of my hand and I examined the ring more closely.

(why does her ring have a w on it)
