I was sitting in my house at the time, still wondering about my future job.
It had been at least 11 years since the last World War had ended, so there was barely even any thoughts of a second world war.
The date was the 1st of September, 1939. I was 17 by then, and could still remember the horrors of the first world war, despite being only 6 years old.
The newspaper arrived. Wasn't anything good, like normal.
It was worse.
'WAR BEGINS'
'Poland invaded; Cities bombed'
Everyone across the United Kingdom, must have read the news.
Everyone was rushing around and gathering supplies as if there was about to be some sort of major bombing happening.
I didn't believe a single word of the newspaper, taking it as a hoax.
The next day.
Was the newspaper telling the truth? I was confused, although one obvious fact could be the supplies for example sugar, eggs and things like that were being gradually rationed out.
Still doubt there would be a mass bombing, seemed a bit dramatic as it being the next day from war being announced.
A year later.
Still nothing happening other than smaller rations because of supplies becoming scarce.
