"U-u-uh w-who a-are y-you?" David choked out.
"Oh, I suppose your mother didn't tell you. I'm Hunter, your father."
"H-how do I know y-you're not lying?" David stuttered.
Hunter looked at David. They had the same auburn hair, along with the same tall and skinny structure. But David was extremely thin, thinner than someone his age should be.
"David, are you eating?" Hunter questioned. David froze.
"Y-yeah."
Hunter walked into the pantry and opened the door. Nothing was in it. "Where's the food? Your mother buys food, right?" Hunter was awestruck.
"Y-yeah, sometimes." David looked down. He's going to try and help, and then mom will kill me. He was scared.
"Sometimes? What? You mean, always?" Hunter was walking towards the fridge now. He opened the door.
All he saw was beer. "She's an alcoholic isn't she?" He sighed. David nodded. Hunter looked at him with sad eyes. "Does she abuse you?"
David froze. "Why would that even matter? You don't even talk to us."
Hunter opened and then closed his mouth. He finally managed to say something. "That's because Grace is not someone I know... anymore. I'm sorry, okay? Here, this'll make it better."
He reaches into his back pocket and pulled out a phone. It was small, and silver. It had a little bit of blue on the sides. "It's a Nokia." Hunter smiled. David took a step forward, and took the phone from his hand.
"But moms going to ask where I got it... She doesn't like you..." David said slowly. Hunter nodded.
"I already told her that I was coming. She knows that you'll have a phone, so it's fine." Hunter smiled.
Hunter looked at his watch. "Oh, sorry buddy I have to go. I'll see ya later!" He said, ruffling David's hair. David smiled.
"Bye dad."
-------------------------------------------------------
David went the school on Monday happier than usual. Daniel noticed this, a bit alarmed. "David, you okay?"
"Yeah, my dad visited and bought me a phone!" David squealed with joy.
"Oh cool! Hey I have one too, here's my number." Daniel handed David a slip of paper with his number written on it.
David took out his phone and typed in 678-431-0507, creating a new contact.
Then the world collapsed.
//I actually did research this chapter and I figured out the year is roughly 2005, based on David's age. So the Nokia is an actual phone.
