Five minutes later...
"Em are you ready to go yet?" Val whined from outside of me bedroom door.
I was supposed to getting, in Val's words 'presentable' to go and meet Matt and his band. As if I really cared. I ended up changing out of the soccer shorts I was wearing into a pair of black skinny jeans and trading in my baggy t-shirt for a tighter fitting red Ramones tee. My hair...well let's just say it has a mind of it's own so I just left it in a ponytail. As far as make up goes, I still had some leftover eyeliner smudged on from the day before so in my eyes, I was ready to go.
"That's what you're wearing?" Val asked, looking me over as I opened my door.
"Yep." I said.
"And I don't supposed I could get you into anything else?"
"Nope." I said, making a small popping noise on the end of the word.
"Well come on then, let's get going."
If anyone could pick two more unlikely friends, it'd be me and Val. She was your typical Cali girl, beautiful of course, blonde and a gorgeous voice and then there was me. Dark brown, almost black hair, rather pale for living in Huntington for six years now, but I was never really an outdoorsy girl. Val and I met in college when I scared off some creep who was hitting on her. I had actually pretended to be her lesbian lover. We were bestfriends form that day on. Originally from New Jersey, I moved to Huntington when I was twenty after.. well, let's just say I had a few reasons for leaving Jersey at that time. Now twenty-four, nothing much had changed. I was still tall, and gangly in my opinion and Val and I were still best friends.
"Hey." Val said, dragging me from my thoughts. "We're here."
I looked out the passenger's window of Val's red pick-up truck and up at the enormous beachside house. If that's what you call it. It was more of a mansion in my opinion.
"This is Matt's house?" I asked wide-eyed as I go out and slammed the door shut.
"No this is Brian's house." Val laughed. "Matt's is down the street."
"Brian's huh?" I asked, still looking up at the huge house as we walked to the front door. "You think he's compensating or something?"
"Val!" A man's voice, I assumed to be Matt's.
"Mattie!" She exclaimed, running up to a tall, very muscular man with huge tattooed arms in the doorway. He had a lip ring, and even though I hated to admit it, adorable dimples that showed when he smiled down at Val in his arms.
"God I missed you so much." He said, hugging her tightly.
"Me too." She smiled as she pecked him on the lips.
"Who's this?" Matt asked, looking at me standing awkwardly behind them.
"Oh, Matt this is my friend Emily... well she prefers Em." Val said. "Haven't you met her before? We've been roomates for what, a couple of years now right Em?"
I nodded, but of course Matt and I hadn't met before. I had politely declined whenever Val had asked me to come with her to hang out with Matt, or his bandmates.
"No I haven't." Matt said, reaching out a hand to me. "Please to meet you Em." Val gave me a warning look and I shook Matt's hand reluctantly.
"The guys all here?" Val looking around as Matt led us through the front door.
"Yeah, they're around here somewhere." He said.
"I hadn't had set a foot inside the door when I was grabbed from behind and pulled into a bone crushing hug.
