Clarissa POV

“So my love” Kale looked at me under the stream of water from the shower “your back or mine?” He wiggled his eyebrows at me which made me laugh. I picked up the sponge and passed it to him as I turned my back to him. His hands worked a lather down my back. Following the sponge was his mouth, littering my back with butterfly kisses. Each kiss sent shivers down my body.

I turned and pressed my body to him, kissing him with passion I did not think I had. I heard him groan, his hands pulling me even closer. I could feel the effect I was having on him. I broke the kiss and took in the sight of him. His broad shoulders with a deep tan, his defined chest and strong muscled arms rippled under the water. My gaze wondered over all of him... ‘Wow!’ I muttered internally. Kales chuckle stopped my staring. “Really Princess, is that all? Just wow?”

“Oh umm, well...” I hung my head with embarrassment, “I didn’t mean for you to hear that. But yeah, a big wow” I smiled up to him as I turned off the shower and stepped out.

The whole day so far had been completely overwhelming. I sat at my vanity trying to take it all in. I sighed internally, I wanted nothing more than to let Kale claim me and for me to be his in every way but something held me back.

I could feel my love for him growing, but there was much I still did not know about him. Where had he been those 3 years while I was a prisoner? ‘If he had been here, I would not have spent those years feeling scared.’  I asked him my question as I joined to sit with him on the loveseat.

“My mother died before I came into my gifts, which as you know was quite a while ago. My father did not handle it well. We fought constantly, he was trying to shape my future to the way he wanted it to go. 6 months after I came into my gifts I left, only coming back every few years. It was not until I returned this time and met you that my father and I have begun to build bridges and it is thanks to you. If you had not been here I would have left within a few weeks. Not only have you helped us rebuild our relationship, you have bought joy to my father.” I looked at him like he was mad.

“Joy?? He enjoyed keeping me locked up for years did he?” I felt my anger building, any thoughts of pity for Gregor vanished. I could feel a scorching heat run down my arms. “Do you know what your father brought to me? He taught me fear, hate and anger. I loathed him until you arrived. I detested the man.”

“Clarissa”

“No Kale, you might not want to hear it but it is true. He seemed like a monster! I was 13 years old and he told me that I was being taken to my Grandparents, only to end up here. Do you know what it was like for me?? I returned home from a birthday party to find my family dead. Throats slit and left lying in their own blood! I sat there for days, hiding from the looters that came as I believed my life to be in danger. Little did I know I trusted the wrong person.” I was shaking with anger and reliving the memory brought all my anguish back to surface. “They may not have been my family by blood, but in every other way there were.” My rant over I was struggling to calm myself.

“My love, I know you need to talk about this but go look in the mirror.” I had already walked halfway across the room while I had ranted at him. I turned to look at my reflection. My normal blue eyes where nearly black and my body was surrounded by flames! “Looks like you have the elements at your command also” I looked back to Kale, shock was across his face with a hint of fear.

“I’m sorry. Let me try to turn this off.” I slowed my breathing to calm my heart, finally the heat in my arms died down. As soon as Kale felt safe to approach me he held me in his arms. Tears threatened to overwhelm him as he looked down at me.
