A new (potentially crappy) day

Beep beep beep beep

I groan and open my eyes. Out of habit, I snap my fingers, and the light turns on. The familiar feeling of magic in the air is calming, and I almost fall back asleep. Except for the beeping.

Beep beep beep beep

It is really starting to annoy me. Slowly, but surely, I turn to my desk. My digital watch is beeping like crazy, telling me to get my ass in gear.

Beep beep beep beep

"Shut up!" I reach my arm out and turns the alarm off with a flick of my hand. The silence fills my ears, and I can feel the tiredness creep onto my back. I can feel my eyelids getting heavy, so I decide to get up before I black out.

I take a quick shower before deciding on a purple hoodie and jeans. Then I walk downstairs. The tv is promising death and apocalypse and great terror in the nearest future. Nothing new, in other words. My brother is sitting at the table, reading the newspaper. His coffee is floating beside him in a mug with the words "Best bro ever" printed on it. It is very childish, but I was young. He seems to like it, though, so I don't wanna tell him to cut it.

"Morning, Lex." He smiles at me, while gripping his mug and taking a sip of it. I smile and turn to get some cereal. "Morning, Will."
"So, ready for school?" He lets his mug float back into position. I sit down with the cereal in a bowl, together with some milk. "Yeah, why not?" I pour my milk while eyeing him up and down. He is wearing a light blue t-shirt with a pair of black pants. Today, his blonde hair is tied back in a short ponytail, similar to my own, black hair. His coffee is still floating beside him. "And why are you levitating the coffee? You could just put it on the table." Will tries to look offended at the question. "Why, am I not allowed to use magic in my own home? Am I not allowed to use the gift I was born with to make my life easier?" He huffs dramatically, and I smile. "I am just saying, isn't it a lot less energy consuming to just..." I gesture to the spot in front of him on the table."...Have it standing there?" He looks down at where I'm pointing, as if considering if it's worth it. He then slowly moves his mug... over to the other side of his head.
"Nah."

"Well, buh-bye! Try not to kill anyone at school today." Will smirks at me, standing in the hallway of our tiny house. I am standing halfway out the door, ready to leave him alone for the day. "Yeah, I'll try." I deadpan. "Don't burn down the house while I'm gone. I need the couch later." "Why do you need the couch?" Will looks questioning at me, his head slightly turned to the side. I smile a little at him. "Project at school." Will grimaces at me. "Well, I hope it isn't explosions this time. I'll try not to burn the couch." He gives me a thumbs up as I grab my bag and walks out the door, ready to face the day.
