That's why I need the couch

"Oh. My. God. That was the most boring math lesson ever!" I fall down at our lunchtable, slamming my lunchbox down on the wooden surface with a bang. Mina is already sitting there, scrolling on her phone. Beside her is Amethyst, Sean and Leo, a redhead with grey eyes and healing powers(D). All three of them solemnly nod at my statement. "Yeah," Amethyst says, shaking her head. "I don't really get it all. It is too much information." Leo smiles at me, and I smile back. Amethyst isn't one to study too much. She admits to it herself, but still acts surprised whenever she gets bad grades. She uses the excuse of wanting to be a champion, just like me, and therefore she "doesn't need" grades. "No worries. You'll get it eventually." Sean nods his head at Amethyst, since his hands are occupied with a gaming controller. The hologram in front of him is showing some sort of fighting game. Probably boxing. For a guy so smart, Sean sure is interested in games. He is on the same level as Lily when it comes to the brain, but kicks her butt when it comes to the brawn. It is weird.

"Ready for sleepover, then?" I smile at the other people around the table, my friends. Me and Mina, who have known each other since first grade, Leo and Sean who I got to know at the start of this year, and Amethyst, latest recruitment in our group. I remember the day she joined us. It was about a month ago, when the air still was full of snowflakes. Sean had waltzed in and slammed his lunch on the table, similar to what I just did. He had announced that Amethyst was sitting with us today, and that she really liked carrots. Why he added that last comment, I will never know. After that day, Lily left our group, and Amethyst joined. To be honest, it is much more fun with Amethyst. Her purple eyes bring a whole different light to the table.
"YEAH!" Everyone shouts, making some people stare. We have discussed this the whole of last week. Everyone is coming over for a sleepover at my place, and we'll be working on a spell Crimson wants us to learn. Levitation of heavy things. Like a couch. We will also be watching a movie and play games and talk and eat candy. Mina coughs, looking sheepishly at me. Before she can even say anything, I answer her question. "It's fine. You can come later?" Mina nods happily. I wouldn't take her time with her father away from her. She can join us at another time. "Yeah," she laughs. "I'll be there in time to lift the couch."

"So, peeps, what is the definition of a levitating spell?" Crimson, tall, brown haired and with one red eye, is sitting behind his desk, hands folded in front of him. Everyone in the classroom hesitates. We just sat down after the quick pause between English Literature and Spell Class. And the first thing he throws at us is this question. What does he mean with that? A hesitant hand rises from the crowd. "Yes, Sean?" Crimson nods in the general direction of where Sean is sitting. "Er... A levitation spell is defined by its ability of... levitating things?" Sean shrugs. Amethyst pokes Sean in his side. "Smooth, dude." He scoffs at her, but doesn't do anything. He just looks back to Crimson, a quizzical look on his face. "Well," Crimson clears his throat."A levitating spell is in general defined by its ability to levitate things, just like you said. But it is also one of the basic spells, and one of the first to be learned by a student. It is also known for a relatively low energy consumption, as a person can levitate small things for long periods of time." He proves his point by flicking his hand and levitating his coffee mug a few inches off the table, and keeping it there while he continues speaking. "But I hope you already know most of that. I remember I learned that when I was six, so I hope it was around there for you, too, unless the system has changed a lot since I was a student here." He smiles a crooked smile, simultaneously reminding us how young he actually is. Mr. Crimson, member of the famous red eyed Crimson family, is only 24. He is said to have one of the highest IQs ever registered, and he decided to use it as a teacher. He is specialised in spells. All types of spells. Long distance and close up, as well as general healing. He is kind, he is funny. He is in short the best teacher we could ever have. We have him in most subjects, and he keeps us in check.
"Your homework will, as mentioned earlier this week, be to practice levitation of heavy objects. You can practice on whatever you like, but the size of the object during your test next week will be about the size of a couch." Mr. Crimson looks at his watch. "Other things included in the test are for example explosion spells and shrinking of objects. But it seems you are free to go now, as the bell will go off in...."
