"so you're the one who bought my drink?" she asked, her voice was soft and gentle.

I nodded a blush creeping onto my cheeks, I had no idea what was wrong with me, I certainly didn't like that I couldn't talk to her.

"Do you talk?" she asked again giggling now. I blushed further and nodded looking down at my fidgeting hands.

"I-I'm Michael" I mumbled out slightly, I want to just face palm the table, I was acting so incredibly awkward.

"Well Michael it's nice to finally meet you, I've wondered how long it will take for you to finally come and say hello" she gave me a sly smile. My eyes widened, had she seen me stare at her oh so many times.

"You are always looking in my direction Michael, I knew it would be sooner or later you would finally come talk to me, so I asked the waitress to tell you to buy me a drink, if you weren't going to make a move I would I thought!" now it was embarrassing, Rose, the girl I had been admiring from a distance for quite a while had to make the first move, simply because I has forgotten how to talk to a girl.

"oh god.. I probably look a creep staring at you all the time" I covered my face with my hands to hide my bright red face.

She giggled for a second before replying, "you don't look like a creep, sometimes I would sneak a cheeky glance" she told me.

I uncovered my face hoping the redness had faded, she was obviously a lot better at looking at me, than I was at looking at her since I hadn't caught her before.

"I'm still embarrassed at the fact you caught me staring" I told her laughing.

"I always found it cute, it's like a compliment when someone stares at you, unless they think you're really ugly and that's why they are staring."

"I don't think you're ugly at all" I told her making her smile, noticed she had a small chip in her tooth, I liked I though, nobody was perfect and her imperfection just made me like her more.

"Would you like to go for a walk or something?" she asked already standing up, picking her bag up from the floor.

"Uh yeah okay" I nodded quickly, I would do anything to just stay with her right now.

We left the coffee shop not before saying goodbye to the waitress, I would have to thank her later I thought, we walked outside onto a long road. It wasn't busy, just a few family's and business people.

"so Michael tell me about yourself?" Rose asked after a minutes of us walking in silence. I thought for a moment, what could I tell her? I wasn't very interesting.

"um what do you want to know?"

"everything" she simply stated. It really didn't narrow much down for me.

"I uh I'm Michael Clifford, I'm 18 years old me and mates have this band that plays in the tav-"

Before I could finish my sentence Rose's phone rang and she quickly answered it, I stopped talking so that she could hear whoever it was on the phone.

"okay.. yeah, I'll be right there" She answered quickly, she looked at me with a sympathetic smile as she clutched her phone in her hands.

"I'm really sorry Michael I have to go, ill see you another time yeah?" She ran off before I could even ask for her number or even if I could see her again.

I knew I probably would because we went to the same Café almost every day, so I was pretty positive about bumping into her again.

-

Boy was I wrong, I didn't know if she was avoiding me or if maybe she had been extremely busy but I hadn't seen Rose in over a week and half, almost 2 weeks.

Was she okay? She isn't hurt is she? I sat at my usual table sipping my usual coffee but I didn't have a usual blueberry muffin because the waitress told me they were all out.

I was writing a song, or trying to write a song, I had been stuck for quite a while on it though.

The waitress who's name I still hadn't learned came over to ask if I needed anything else, I shook my head no.

"Where's Rose?" I asked without thinking, maybe she knew her well.

"Rose? I don't know, did you do something Michael to scare her off?" she joked but it made me think, had I done anything wrong?

I still barely knew the girl and I was freaking out, I'm sure she is just busy, I needed to stop panicking.

As I thought that the bell above the door rang, my head turned to see Rose walking through the door, but this time it was different, she wasn't wearing makeup and her eyes were red with bags underneath. Should I go over to see if she was okay or would that be wrong.

I looked at the waitress for help who was making rose's usual, she nodded at me to go over to her. I walked to the counter and took her muffin and drink to her and placed it on her table before sitting down myself.

"I-I um brought your drink-"

"Yes Michael I can see that, thanks" Rose but in, I didn't know how to react, did she want me to leave her alone, maybe she was just being polite the day we spoke.

"Are you okay?"

"Do I look like I'm okay Michael? can you just go leave me be, I'm not feeling great and I don't want to yell at you" she mumbled now cupping her drink and sipping it softly.

I sighed before standing up nodding, I was never good I the kind of situation when a girl was upset or angry. I always thought it was best to just listen to them and hope it works.

As I went to walk away the waitress stopped me, giving me a look as if to say what the actual fuck are you doing, I just pointed at Rose as if to say she told me to leave. She rolled her eyes and pushed me back to the table where I took my seat once again.

"If you want to talk you can.. um" I tried to think of anything to say but I couldn't.

She stayed silent for a few minutes before choking back sob, it was like the first time I had ever seen her except I didn't speak to her then.

"about 2 or 3 months ago my father.. he was diagnosed with cancer, they said he had about 6 months to live-"

"I'm so sorry" I began apologizing  but she stopped me, she had more to say.

"Like a said, months went by, he was okay, not great, then the other day when we were walking.. I got a call from the hospital and went straight there, they don't know really what happened but, that night my father passed away" her voice was quite, and a tear was running down her cheek now, I didn't know what to do or say, I wanted to apologies but I remembered how much I hated people apologizing to me my when a friend of mine had lost his life to cancer a few years back.

"You don't have to say anything mike, I know you are thinking of something to say but its fine."

"do you want to go out for food? I can try take your mind of things maybe?" I asked hoping to cheer her up a little, I was also very hungry without my blueberry muffin.

She looked at me for a minute before nodding, "I would like that yeah."

I smiled and we both stood up, once again exiting the café together.
