"Mitch." Scott whispered, shaking me awake. God he's been doing this a lot. "Mitch, honey, wake up. We're here."
I opened my eyes and squinted when the light was welcomed into my eyes all at once. Once my eyes managed to adjust to the light, I saw Scott standing over me, a smile on his face. He seemed to be in a good mood. I yawned and sat up, rubbing my eyes. We were at a hotel? I looked over at Scott and saw a wallet and some keys in his hand.
"Why are we here?" I asked, yawning and standing up, hissing when my feet met the hot ground. "Where is here, actually?"
"We're in New York." He said, making me look at him with wide eyes.
"NEW YORK!" I squeaked, forgetting the hot ground under my still bare feet. "Why are we in New York Scott?"
"I'm taking you out on a proper date." He said, smiling at me.
"What?" I asked, trembling. I didn't expect for Scott to go through all this trouble for me. "Scott, you don't have to do this. I have work honey!"
"I already called you off for the next few days." He said, opening the back door. Summer was here too! "Summer honey. Wake up. We're at New York!"
"We're here?" Summer asked sleepily, opening those beautiful eyes slowly. "I'm still sleepy daddy."
"Alright sweetie. You can still sleep." Scott nodded, looking at me. "Can you pick her up for me? I'm gonna get our stuff from the back."
"Yeah." I nodded, picking Summer up and placing her on my hip.
"I already reserved us a room and bought it before I woke you up. Here, take the keys and go in for us." He said, handing the keys to me. I smiled at him and nodded, carrying Summer into the hotel room when I finally found the number.
The first thing I saw was that there were 2 beds. I bit my lip and placed Summer on the first one I saw, tucking her in and kissing her forehead. I was going to go downstairs when I went to go help Scott, I saw he was in front of the door, our bags in hand. I smiled up at him and helped him put everything away. He packed hastily. He forgot our damn phone chargers. I rolled my eyes and said we would buy some later, along with toothbrushes, toothpaste, and contact solution. Once we got everything unpacked, Scott and I collapsed on the other bed and I looked over at Summer sleeping. She was adorable when she slept.
"She's tired." I muttered, moving up to the pillows and yawning. "So am I."
"Then go to sleep. We have the next few days to see New York. You can just spend this time sleeping." Scott said, making me smile and turn to him.
"Sleep with me?" I asked, making him smile and nod.
"Sure hun." He said, moving up so he was lying down.
I decided to take a leap of faith and laid my head on his chest. Scott wrapped his arms around me, pulling me closer and holding me tightly to him. I liked this feeling. It was nice to have Scott hold me in his arms. I quickly fell asleep, Scott brushing my hair from my face.
~**~
I woke up to Summer giggling beside me. I opened my eyes and saw Summer in bed with Scott and I. She pointed to Scott, who was dead asleep and snoring. He looks so young when he's asleep. It's like all the stress leaves him when he's asleep and he doesn't look so old anymore. Not that he looks old. He just looks.... he looks younger when he's asleep. I wonder if we all look like that when we're asleep. I brushed some of his hair from his forehead and motioned for Summer to go watch her cartoons. She got the message and walked off to the TV, immediately turning on Sponge Bob. This kid has a good taste in shows. I gently played with Scott's hair as I waited for him to wake up. I wasn't gonna wake Scott up. He's been dead tired since he came back. A complete idiot could see that. So, I think it's better if he sleeps, because he needs it. I hummed an old song my mom use to sing to me when I couldn't sleep. I could never remember the same of it, but I always thought it was beautiful. I'll have to look up the song sometime. I can remember the melody of it, but the song and lyrics are lost to me. Scott slowly opened his eyes and smiled at me.
